pop eye treatment

my friend just give me a blue line angle. both eyes were bluring and little poping out.. what kind of medicine you guys treat for pop eye/bluring eye? right now the fish is in a treatment tank. i'm using melefix right now as the description say it will help bluring eyes.. thanks..

QT combined with use of an antibiotic is the std treatment for eye bacterial infections. Many use Maracyn 2 which is often available at Petco/Petsmarts etc.

As I recall Melafix is a tea tree extract .. suppose to have some nominal antibacterial properties but its not the same as using a bonafide antibiotic. Don't use antibiotics in your show tank.

Haven't much luck with the "homeopathic" remedies like mela fix. As for Antibiotics, the Saltwater version of Maracyn 2 or Nitrofuran work well.

As I recall the only difference between FW and SW versions of Maracyn 2 was the addition of some vitamins ... thats based on my "old" recollection and if its correct I would get the one that cheaper.

I don't know Bill, I've had two fish with cloudy eyes over the last couple of years and melafix worked both times.

That being said, many times these problems correct themselves when water conditions improve. So it may not have been the melafix at all but just coincidence. Who knows.

One of the advantages to having worked in the fish trade is having opportunity to test things like melafix on multiple fish on multiple occasions. As a result I've learned that some things work well and some things not so well. I have seen melefix seem to work in some instances, but nearly enough for me to consider it a reliable cure. In any event, I'm glad it worked for you.
