I just recentaly bought a 135G aquarium, i would love to set it up however i am on a second floor apartment so i think im just going to have to stick it in my storage unit until i can get on the ground. I desperatly want a porcupine puffer though right now i have a 60 gallon setup. Realistiacly if i were to buy a 2-3 puff how long would it take till i had to set up my 135 to accomadate it.

I live on the second floor with a 90 gallon + sump, sometimes I dont sleep so good at night..............

You might want to post the question in the "Reef Fishes" forum. There may be more responses from fish experts there.

I had a Dog Face Puffer in a 55 gallon tank for four years. It seemed to do very well. Puffers are pigs, as you probably know. They are sloppy eaters and produce a lot of waste. They have great personalities, however.

I bought my porc when he was around 3.5" in one year he is over 6", and looks stressed in my 90. I am planning a 180-220 later this year.
FWIW I feed him every other day.

I imagine not much more than a year or so. probably best to wait until you can get the larger tank set up.

i wouldnt worry too much about falling through your floor, any place built to at least national building code standards will more than support a 135g aquarium. This is one issue people get overly scared with, id be more concerned with an overflowing sump damaging the ceiling below than weight.

I was a little worried about your advice until I saw your occupation... Just one question, in case the unthinkable happens and it does damage because of weight... Because national building codes said it should support the weight am i protected? Would renters insurance protect that too?

Your apartments may have a rule about large fish tanks. In that case I wouldn't count on them covering it.

FWIW I had my 90 with 30 gallon sump on a 2nd floor apt with no problems, and it is the same dimensions as the 135 only 2' shorter. You will hit another joist so it is about the same.

There really isnt a clear cut answer for you. It all depends on how you feed, the area that the puffer has to swim, and many other things. Exactly what CVRZ said, probably no more than a year.

I have had to wait a long time before I could get a Puffer.

well I wouldnt worry about renters insurance covering it if it fell through..Id worry that it may hurt or kill someone below....
