port closed.

i enable port XXXX in my route, but when i use open port check tool, it said port XXXX it's close. i check with my ISP(comcast), they are not blocking that port...
i use SBG 6580 modem.
i cant get to my apex outside of my house now.
please help.

Is the SBG6580 the only device, or do you also have a separate router behind the 6580? The SBG6580 is not just a cable modem, it is also a router. If you do have
 
Usually after you open up a port, you need to direct the traffic to a particular internal IP address, and particular port if using port translation. Exactly how to do this depends on your router device. Each is a little router is different, so refer to your documentation for details. Since the device was probably provided by your cable company, you may be able to call them for product support, and they can assist you. Or possibly do more research on the device to understand its setup.

i do have a router after the modem, but the controller directly connected to the modem have nothing to do with the router. so i have it working before, i dont know what change it just wont link up now.

i did try just tcp or both. no luck.
 
Are you using the same port on the .AC? It looks to me like your router does not support redirecting the external port XXXX to a different internal port (e.g. port 80).

it worked before. same router. i use port 168. but for some reason, even i forward the port, it show port is close or stealth. the only port is open is 8080, i even try that port still no luck.
 
check with ISP. other than port 80 and 25, they didnt block any port. i did reset the router back to default setting. still no luck.
 
How are you checking for open ports? From inside or outside your network? If inside, is your PC plugged into router or modem? If connected to router, it might cause problems.

If outside, make sure ports are not blocked on the network you are on. Where I work, we block all ports below 1024

Looks like both of those checkers are run from inside your network. Is your computer plugged into the router or the modem? If the computer is plugged into the router, the router could be interfering with the port check (unless the router is in bridge mode). Why are you using a router behind the modem? It looks like the SBG6580 functions as a router and firewall.

i use the modem for the room behind my garage. my modem is in my basement, the room before my garage is out of range, so i have the modem for that.
 
I would test from outside your network. There are websites that will do this, but I don't quite trust them, so I would use the PortQuery tool from Microsoft.

After installing, run PortQryUI.exe. You can manually enter the address and port. Pretty straightforward. If that works, then the problem is something on your network.

It might also be useful to look at the DHCP page on your modem/router config. Do you see the Aquacontroller's IP address there? The address for the AC should either put in outside the DHCP range or should have a reserved IP. The range for DHCP will be the starting address (default 192.168.0.2) + the number of CPE's (default 253). On my router, I have the range of dynamic addresses from 2-50 and assign any static addresses at 51 and higher.
 
If you can, post screen shots of the Apex network settings, and the SBG6580 port forwarding page.

The default gateway and DNS server settings are wrong; they should be all set to 192.168.0.1 (the LAN IP address of the SBG).

Remove the port forwarding for ports 25 and 110; these are ports used for outbound email server connections, and should NOT be forwarded.

You said earlier that you are using port 168, that's not right; 168 is the last part of the Apex's IP address. You are using port 8080. The port checker you used showed you that port 8080 is open, as it should be in your case.

Fix the default gateway / DNS server settings and the port forwarding of ports 25 and 110. Then, look up the public/WAN IP address of the SBG. Then attempt to access the Apex from the Internet using http://[I]public-ip-address[/I]:8080
 
still no luck.
i use 168 as ip address also i used 168 as port # before i change to 8080
i change the port from 168 to 8080, because i only port that open is 8080.
