Port Jackson's Shark care?

No experience, but they require the same amount of care as other benthic sharks do. They need huge tanks, no less than about 1,200g. or 12' long x 5.5' wide x 2.5' deep. Although, many people recommend tanks in the 1,800 gallon range or 14' long x 7' wide x 2.5' deep.

Good luck!

I thought port jacksons required nearly identical care as bamboos...if im wrong, someone correct me.

Yeah, pretty much.

*Not sure if you saw, but I did put that in...I think? :p

Don't mean to start an argument or anything, but anyone who has experience keeping sharks would say the care levels are much the same. The only major difference is the tank size requirements.

They are close to the same requirements except that the Port Jacksons get up to 5' and need a bigger tank as stated above. A friend of mine had one in a 1000G tank and had to give it up because his tank ended up being way too small and the shark eventually got very stressed and stopped swimming much. It was so sad to see, so make sure you have a tank well over 1000G and closer to 2000G.

nope... they have very different requirements..

Id love to gear from you what the "very different" requirements are???

For one, Port Jackson sharks are not a tropical species, as bamboo sharks are. Care is similar to horn sharks, with ideal temps in the low 70's and they require more swimming space than bamboos (less rock work in the tank), but they get larger than horn sharks. Something to keep in mind is that a 3' horn shark or Port Jackson is a much larger animal than a 3' bamboo shark. Bamboo sharks handle confinement much better than horn sharks do, which is a big factor in tank size.
