Portable A/C users?

My fish room has only one window that i like to keep free, but my tank is just warm enough that i'd like to bring it down a degree or two.

...so has anyone used a 'portable a/c'.....i found one that auto shuts off after 8 hours(needs to be drained, i guess, but up until then it automatically drains fluid to keep running for the full 8 hours each time......What do you guys think ??

I am thinking about doing the same thing... I don't want to get a chiller and my tank will be in a small room that has a window. I was thinking about getting a portable A/C for this room even though I already have a wall unit powerfull enought for the whole condo... The bonus with the portable A/C is that most of them serve as dehumidifiers aswell, a 9000BTU portable A/C can dhumidify up to 80pints per day which is more than the average dehumidifier... I'm just not sure the A/C would really have an effect on the tank's temp...

How about trying one of those window fan units. Just set the thing to blow the hot air out while the lights are on. That might do the job if you only want to drop a degree or two.

Grim...i have 3 strong fans already going on my AC Jr......it doesn't get much hotter than yesterday the whole summer(mid 90's) and it only got up to 81.4....but i turned my halides off early

Not only would it keep the heat down it would also keep humidity from building up too high.

I just picked one up on Friday for my fishies. My building is notoriusly bad for shutting down the central AC on the worst days. I bought a 9000 BTU Amana portable for $340.00 here in NJ. My tank was running at 83+ late last week, it is now at 80.

I have the fans from the AC blowing in the general direction of the tank. It cools my whole room pretty well. The room is about 14'w a 26' long. I reccomend doing this. Its better than adding a chiller because it keeps both you and your fish happy.
