Portable Microscope vs. Magnifying Glass

We currently don't have any magnifying glasses or anything to look at corals up close (to check for red bugs or just for fun). I'm leaning towards a $17 handheld LED-lit microscope from Anchor Optics, with 60-100X zoom. My husband is wondering if that is too magnification, and if we should go for a 10-20X jeweler's magnifying glass.
What do all of you use, and what would you recommend?

Depending on how wide your field of view is, you may or may not be able to see the entire red bug at once with the 60-100x zoom. 10-20x will probably suffice for what you want to do.
