Poseidon PS4 External Pump

How does this pump compare noise wise to the iwaki MD 40 RLXT?

What about longevity? Do you guys as a retailer see many issues regarding warranty on these?

Also, it looks like they only accept barb fittings? So there is no Female or male theads on the return/intake?

They seem like a great deal for a solid pump.

Thanks,

Jim

Hello Jim,

Thank you for your post, in comparison to noise the PS4 is much quieter, but keep in mind that these pumps will raise your tank temperature a bit because they are water cooled not fan cooled, so this is something you may want to consider. You also want to consider where the pump is going to be placed, meaning depending where you place it it could make a difference in noise level. For example you definately will hear any pump in a quiet reading room or bedroom, compared to being in a room that has the T.V on or where there is alot going on in.
These are pretty dependable pumps I hardly see any warranty issues with then, but like with any piece of machinery if you take care of it it will last you a long time. As for the plumbing part there are no threads on the intake/outlet inside or out so you will need a slip adapter barb fitting or PVC adapter depending on how you plan to plumb the pump in to your system. You can find our barb fittings here via this link http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_plumbing_parts_fittings_hose_barb_hosebarb.asp

I hope this information was helpful to you, please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the reply Walter!

The pump will be in a room w/ a TV, so there will some background noise.

I am concerned about the tranfer of heat. I don't run a chiller and wold like to avoid the need if at all possible.

Looks like the Iwaki or the panworld will be the pumps that I choose from.

Thanks again.

One more question guys ;)

Right now I'm running a mag 9.5 and a 7 in sump. Do you think these two pumps create more heat that the Poseidon can potentially?

Thanks again

Jim

I hope its ok to post here. I purchased the Poseidon T4 from Marine Depot and when I turned it on, I had to make sure it was plugged in. Dead silent. The only noise I hear is from my G3 skimmer. It does add a few degrees to the tank. How much I haven't determined yet, but I have a clip-on fan over the sump that turns on just before the lights come on to help with the heat. I have my pump as a return on a 180g.

Just some FYI, I run a T4 on my 75 sps tank and the pump alone raises the temp 3-4 deg. The housing will get too hot to touch. It's really quiet and hasn't been shut off for a couple of years now. The chiller takes up the slack. I will keep it.
