Possible Biocube 29 Modification

I recently picked up a used Biocube 29 and I'm kicking around a few modifications. I want to run either a Tunze 9002 or a Hydor Slim Skim but the only location for either unit would be in chamber 2. As you know, chamber 2 does not have a stable water level due to evaporation so here's what I am thinking...

Remove the divider between chamber 1 and 2 and move it towards chamber 3 enough so that I can fit the skimmer in the newly expanded chamber 1. This would ensure a constant water level for the skimmer.

If it is too difficult to remove the divider I can just drill some holes in the divider to render it useless and then create a new new divider that replicates the original in chamber 2.

Does anyone see any problems with either of these plans? Has anyone done anything similar?

Thanks,

Brian

I've been down the HOB skimmer road and I would rather not on this tank.

I've seen people go so far as to remove the rear filter compartment entirely and drill the tank for a sump. I do not want to take it that far and I'm surprised nobody has tried something similar to what I am thinking...which makes me wonder if there's something I'm missing.

Does anyone see any flaws in either of my plans?

If you're really set on this why not just add a baffle in the second chamber to keep that water level steady so you only have level changes in the final chamber? So no cutting involved.
