Possible bta split?

Are there any early warning signs that a bta is going to split? Mine has decided to move after 6 months, and is begining to look more oval than round and the mouth is also shaped like an oval now. I have been feeding it a lot more and it has grown several inches in the last month or two.

Needless to say my clowns are a little irate right now, as the anemone is slowly moving down and under it's original rock.

Could be, but nothing is definite. Sometimes they just do strange stuff.

I would cut down on the feeding. esp if it is in the process of splitting. As well once it splits, you should not feed for 2 weeks or so until the mouth has been full developed. If you feed too soon and too much you might agitate it and this may cause more problems.

When mine split they do take on more of an elliptical pattern for awhile before splitting off. I have also noticed that they will do this sometimes as well when they need different flow or lighting and will increase their surface area to adjust - which might explain why they are on the move. Strange creatures them anemones, but increased feeding will definitely help promote the split in my experience. It takes lots of energy for them to do it, and if you have been giving them lots of food, it will act as a catalyst.

Before splitting, mines became reclusive.. and started to stretch out. FOOT. I had a buch or RBTA's that I used to sell.

It has been in the exact same place for almost 8 months now, and it's definately begining to stretch itself apart. i can see approximately where it plans on splitting now that the lights are on. We'll see how it goes.

My RBTA just finished splitting. It started off with a tear in the middle that slowly turned inwards and developed into mouths. The split took about 7 days from start to finish.

Mine went kinda oval right before it split too. I didn't notice it until feeding one day, two mouths. Too bad the base of both are deep in cracks of a huge piece of liverock I originally bought the first one on because with the two now when they are really happy they are huge.

Now my maroon is starting to go crazy fanning sand and throwing nearby frags everywhere!

If it does, I need the split Kevin. My wife will never forgive me for selling that one to you. I got it from Charles above and it is the reddest one I have ever seen.

told you , you'd be happy with it paul.. unfortunately I lost the mother off all my clones.. sucks.

my old one got as big as a serving plate roughly over a foot wide. and full red... no green on the base or fading color..

Do you still have one of it's splits? I hope so as it was an AMAZING specimen. I got rid of my reef for awhile to do a FOWLR. That's the reason I hooked Kevin up with it. It always got major compliments due to its deep red color.

nah, man... I lost the main mother and 2 clones... POS mj1200 gutten all 3... but my buddy still has one of the clones that my mother clone came from I believe...

Mine get ovaloid (?) right before splitting too. Do anybody else's take up to seven days, though? I just notice the next day that I have two.

When mine get huge, it's usually because they're hungry.
They get larger and larger, and progressively more pale. After feeding, the color gets much more intense again and they get smaller, more compact if you will.

I've also found that changes in the feeding schedule, linked with a large water change, will usually stimulate a split.

No split so far, and the move has come to a halt. It decided to land near and kill for of my cabbage leather. We'll see what happens.
