Sufunk, you have got it all wrong. Steve decides to farm a particular coral and gets a list of people that want to aquire a frag from him. Because they have to wait for the coral to grow before they get a piece and its not just cut into several pieces for everyone to have all at once, the coral is considered 'limited'. He starts with a small piece of the colony to grow out and fufill his reserve list.

Obviously as more people aquire the coral and grow it out, it becomes less and less limited but when he initally lists a coral, it usually is limited in circulation thus the name limited edition.

Like anything else, you get what you pay for. You want nicer corals, you're going to have to pay for them. You can get plenty of basic corals for a very low price. Do you go to the BMW dealer and complain that they are ruining the auto industry because they're prices are higher than the ones at the Saturn dealer?

If any of you guys knew Steve, you'd know he's not in it for the money, he doesn't have a neck full of gold chains and he doesn't drive a Caddy, he's a very normal guy. To really get into the truth, its the guys that own the colony of the limited coral that profit from it. People make all these assumptions about him but havs anyone EVER seen him pump up his stuff? He runs his website and does no advertising.

Its funny how people have twisted Steves inital intentions with limited corals into a big money making scheme because that just couldn't be further from the truth. Look into it before you start to bash the man. He had actually done lots for the hobby and if you keep SPS, thank him as he is one of the first to have documented success keeping stony corals....................

Please explain to me how Steve laying a FAKE label on a coral as LE so that it can be sold for 5-20 times it's actual value by chopshops is good for this HOBBY:confused:
We have come full circle. What is a corals actual value? What is anythings actual value. It is only worth what someone (not only you!) is willing to pay for it. Not a penny more.

I don't fault you for not understanding the concept of supply and demand. It has nothing to do with your level of intelligence but quite possibly that it was not your focus in college.

Here are a couple of terms that you should be familiar with. They might even be helpful to you with your own business as well. :)

Supply and Demand Market Price

Well said Ian! I have dealt with Steve several times and he is as humble and down to earth as anybody I have met! He simply does what he does out of the love for the hobby and corals!

he was providing hobbyist beautiful corals before they were ever attainable except by the select few...Now if you wanna talk chop shops? there is definitely a lot of that going around these days, but if you know anything about corals you would know the difference between a chopped coral and one that has been around in the hobby for sometime, there are many people guilty of chopping corals, just look on ebay but Steve is defintely one of them

Well said Kev and Gcar. Thats why the lineage thing can be important. I have no problem spending good $$$ if the coral has been in captivity and has flourished to the point where it can be fragged. Kev , check that last line, think you meant " is not one of them".
On a side note , i got into the hobby in the mid 90's and dealt with Steve back then. He was a pleasure to do business with. He is an absolute plus for the hobby and has kept me intrested to this day. Think the guy is brilliant!

sufunk, what have you ever done for the hobby? Please let people enjoy this lovely chalice without bringing in negativity towards someone who has done a lot for the hobby, thanks.

Nice chalice!

Spot? Colorful Convict Chalice. Rising Sun Chalice.

I'd drop the colorful, and just call it the 'Convict chalice', or 'FrankenBerry chalice' due to the greens, oranges and pinks.

Dont go too crazy though, there was a guy down southern cali fragging this same morph to locals for under 20 bucks on 1-2 inch frags. So there's a large likelihood this morph wont be unique for veyr much longer ;)

Beautiful chalice...Good luck with the ebay auction, that is a good way to see what it will go for. I like Convict Chalice...as long as it holds the stripes ;).

Drama, what drama??? Was there drama on this thread, lol. I don't like the drama either but I seemed to have stirred up some drama recently myself, oooooops :)

I am back to my humble, gracious self :D.
