Just a thought. I was working in my garage last night and I came across a couple of those halogen work lamps. I know that these cannot be used as DT lighting , however the housing, lense and reflector all looked very useable ? I bought these for $15.00 Canadian. I am wondering if anyone has ever attempted to retrofit these as MH chassis ? Additionally they are all labelled suitable for outdoor use so I would assume they could withstand aquarium installation...?
Possible $ saver for Metal Halides ?

many many DIY 70 and 150 MH setups are done like this...mine is and has been going for 2+ years over my display tank...
only beef i have is they get fairly hot, i think that reduces bulb life and possibly efficiency...the bigger the fixture the better off you will be....use the 500W versions and you should have less trouble...you may not even have to move or modify the lamp holders..
