Possible Spawning need advice

When the lights came on this morning I noticed the tank was very cloudy with stringy white stuff ( looks like wet sperm, sorry)floating in the water and attached to live rock and corals. I am not sure what to do, but the tank does not look to good. The SPS corals look fine but the LPS and soft corals are closed up or not opened fully. This is a 140g reef about to do a 32g water change.
Any ideas or advice would be great.

Thanks

Robbie

through some extra carbon in, make sure your skimmer is running right, do a 30% water change. if it was the clam that spawned you need to find out why. they will do this if there stressed and its not good.

Do a water change and try to get as much of the stuff out as you can. That is probably why your corals are closed up; it's stressing them out.

What you describe doesn't sound exactly like a spawn. Of the anemones I have seen spawn, none looks like "stringy white stuff." Do you have sea cucumbers? If they are ground in a powerhead, it can make a mess of stringy white confetti and cloud the tank.

Could be the RBTAs - especially if one is a female. Do you see any eggs (there is a mucous container/sheath that the egss are in)? Might be something else that spawned, and the stringy white stuff is mucous produced by the stressed corals. Either way, water changes, heavy skimming and even carbon will probably clear it up fairly quickly.
