Possible Website for SW VA

Is anybody interested in having a website devoted strictly to reefers in our area. I know other areas that have this. In addition, we could have minor dues and website sponsors to get equipment that may be needed for a short term that could be passed around club members or species like a Berghia for those having issues. I know other area clubs that get together and mix reef food, do frag swaps, do minor experiments (comparing salt content or test kit accuracy) or have speakers or discussions on various topics.

Not so much...don't see much real benefit over ReefCentral. We also get a fair amount of traffic from other ReefCentral boards. Why go to the admin burden, some cost and remove ourselves from the traffic of a major site?

Your suggestion that the new board could provide a forum for the following doesn't strike me as a benefit since we do these things now: "I know other area clubs that get together and mix reef food, do frag swaps"

I found this board only through a ReefCentral connection. Never would have known any of you people otherwise.

we talked about it not too long ago and sorta decided to go ahead with it mostly to give us the opportunity to talk about anything we want. here on RC, local stores aren't allowed to say a word, and it would be nice if they could actively participate. we'd still have the forum here so we wouldn't lose new people stumbling upon us, but it would really just point to our website. I'm a little surprised that RC lets clubs use their local forum here just as a pointer to a private forum. though i imagine the admins/mods understand our desire to get around the restrictions put in place by the sponsors.

i was supposed to get it going, but have had too many things going on (new day job, old job lingering on, tetra, moving, reactors, new girlfriend,...) to have had the chance to sit down and dig into it. i've already put in my notice to quit tetra as soon as they find a replacement so that should free up enough time and mojo to get on it.

Just my two cents, but this local forum of RC is small already with minimal traffic to begin with. Going with a smaller private forum will only shrink the club size.

Now the truth comes out........new girlfriend:) :) :). What does Lacey think about that?

Someone could do something on facebook, like some of the small business around blacksburg. Keep it simple and zoo/cmp/ua can talk over that on that page. PLus everyone and their grandma us it for most part, may get more people from that. just idea, also dont have to pay for web spce

It would be great if each store set their own facebook page. Then we could all get updates automatically IE UA is getting a new shipment today.

On a side note, its easy to slam a revolving door...add 1 brick.
