To tell you the truth, I am not sure, I have always called them sand polyps for some reason. It is a cool coral to watch. It opens and closes its polyps at night and when feeding.

Well your in luck. i saw a thread asking what kind of palys those were and someone had mention they looked like true palys, which cover the rock like GSP instead of spreading and having individual polyps. those look EXACTLY the same, so now you know :D .
 
very nice new addition Apercula. If you look in my pic 7 posts up you will see a very similar one dead center of the top pic. I love it. My wife bought it for me. It gets huge!!
