this looks like a purple H. malu
it was a crispa
they look like that when they are small and need nourishment

Here is my LTA. It is almost full size (about 1ft in diameter now). My LFS told me it was a rare species of LTA, because most LTA's are white or purple. lol.

hope this worked!

Here's a couple pictures of some baby Bangaiis hosting in one of my RBTAs. In the first pic, you can see the little guy's big full belly. In the second picture you can see the Maroon that also hosted in that RBTA. :)

Wow now that is "insane." I knew certain cardinals could host some anemones but I think your the first that I have seen that has cardinals that host an anemone. Nice. :)

Here is my LTA. It is about 1ft in diameter now. It has split once.

I don't see any picture but I have never heard of a LTA that has split before. Is your nem a Macrodactyla doreensis?

I know I am not fancyfish but you can upload the picture on photobucket and then copy the image link from photobucket and paste it on here. Or you can email the picture to me and I can do the rest and post it for you.

Theres a lot of cool anemone pics here everyone but does anyone have any high res pix of a bright blue or bright red carpet anemone? I love these guys and am thinking of setting up a tank again dedicated to one of these.

Its impossible to determine what that anemone was without a picture of the underside.
Also dont be so sure reefermadness has the id right. Alot of wholesalers and lfs's label crispa's that are lacking food and light malu.

sebae is another name for LTA(M. dorensis)

although sebae is also a name for H.malu and H.crispa
it is a general name like carpet anemone

Not to be rude, but this is incorrect...

Long Tentacled Anemone is a name given to both M.doreensis and H.crispa.

M.doreensis is also known as the curly cue anemone and a few other common names.

H.crispa is known most commonly as Sebae anemone, leathery sea anemone or LTA.

H.malu is also commonly called Sebae anemone...

If someone is calling a M.doreensis a Sebae, they have mis identified the anemone...

Not trying to be argumentative, its just that many people already have trouble identifying anemones properly anyway...

Here are pics of my blue LTA....
This is the true color of the anemone as it appears in my tank under a 175 watt Ushio 10K bulb.

Here is the anemone w/ lights off, long exposure pic...

Blue_LTA3-3_02-28-2007.jpg

Initially, I was worried the anemone was bleached, but the feeding response is good, tentacles are sticky, etc....

Also, there is a pic in Joyce Wilkerson's book "Clownfish" that shows a purple LTA with the same pale body in the wild with some domino damsels...

Time will tell I guess...
