I was told not to get a cuke as if they happen to die they release some sort of chemical that could potentially kill off your whole tank.
I had a cuke in a 20H (20 gallon high tank) with a 3" - 5" sand bed. Didn't die on me. Not saying yours won't. But lots of things can go wrong and kill of your entire tank. Your kalk reactor could get stuck and dose a ton of kalk, thus affecting your pH and kill everything. Your skimmer could go nuts and drain your sump forcing your auto top off to fill the sump with DI water, dropping the salinity to nothing, negatively affecting your livestock.
I came home one day a while back to find the floor wet, the sump empty, the main tank full and the sump pump crackling. Mr Turbo snail crawled intot eh over flow and wreaked havoc. I should have prevented it by having a screen over my overflow to prevent any issues. My mistake.
My point is that if you take care of your system the right way, you are less likely to have problems. Neglecting anything will cause problems.
