You are a little confused. Lugol's, like Kaserpick says, is a solution of iodine and potassium iodide mixed with distilled water.Lugols is potassium iodide and brightwell is potassium chloride I believe. Iodide gives Lugol's it's yellow orange color. Check out the fourth post down. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1906920

I'm still confused on this.I'm curious what will be the answers as well.
Gary, I know that Lugol's is Iodine, Potassium Iodide and distilled water, but when you buy just Potassium Iodide, is it already mixed in distilled water? Or, do you need to mix it RO before you dose? I ask because I know Lugol's is used in smaller amounts (compared to many off the shelf Iodine supplements); if Potassium Iodide isn't dilluted, then it sounds like it would be some potent stuff.
Honestly, I didn't even know that people used just Potassium Iodide. I always thought they meant Lugol's.![]()
