I have a 125 gallon tank that has been set up for about 5 weeks. I admit that I got ahead of my self and was trying to rush the process of cycling but my tank became cloudy and I told my wife to pick up some water clarifyer. She got some and put it in the tank without reading the bottle which said it was for freshwater. The active ingredient is potassium permanganate. She put it in yesterday now the water is brown. I have read that this kills the beneficial bacteria in you filter so should I start over and do a complete water change and let it recycle or what? Also will this kill my live rock?

I'd call the Mfg and ask their tech-support people. Most decent companies have very good support people and (IMO) we don't use them enough.

How much was put in the tank? If it was enough to turn the water brown, I am afraid you have probably sterilized the tank. Can you give a link to the actual product?

the water turned brown after just a short while and has been brown for about 14 hours now. the product is called Jungle Clear Water.
