Potential Topics

we currently do not have a president. The last one dropped out for personal reasons and when we had the last election we had no nominations.

yes, and no... but hosting your own forum, you have the ability to control your boards. Is that good or bad, who knows.

positive to being here, there is more visibilty and the other florida clubs can easily find us...

Stuff about that site that I like th most are not the boards, but how they keep current info, a great library of links, and they have the formal structure of their club there for all to see.

another potential topic

Total Dissolved Solids (what it is, what it means) bring probe and marine and freshwater water samples

How about dosing? Supplements as well as medications.

Maybe this meeting could be more of an organizational meeting to get us on the right track.

well, supplements is on the list, but reef and fish medications could be a seperate topic, especially if each person coming is assigned one supplement to research and/or talk about (tell a story) and we have a round table discussion...

wine tasting, with one of those reps that brings a dozen wines to try -
Halloween and/or SuperBowl party-

just for the hell of it...

three or more years worth of topics so far, not counting Xmas parties and Brian Green's annual Thanksgiving BBQ with the other clubs:

37) behind the scenes tour of Fl aquarium
38) trip to Clearwater Aquarium
39) visit the sponge docks
40) road trip to Sea World...
41) tour of the marine aquarium stores ($5 each to the van and SUV drivers last time)

 So far on the menu for this meeting:
(1.) A guided tour of Ben's new reef and operating system by Ben.
(2.) A explanation/demonstration of Randy's 2 part by poknsnok and DaddyJax.
(3.) A continued discussion of the organization and direction of the TBRC.

It is important to know that this is not a mutiny, it is some suggestons from some of the new folks who have had reef club experience elsewhere.
The TBRC existed before we arrived and will exist beyond us. We would like to add our experience and enthusiasm, and help expand the horizons of the TBRC.
This not old versus new. The house is solid...we want to add a new coat of paint!!!

Sounds good to me! One of the clubs in Atl took a behind the scenes tour of the Atl Aquarium. From what I hear it was pretty impressive. Let me know if this is something we would like to pursue and I will check with the club that went and try to get some POC's to find out the details.

what is randy's 2-part?
FYI: I did the behind the scences tour at the fabulous Atlanta aquarium and we had a thread on the subject here last year...

Speaking of Atlanta Aq., i visited their just after xmas and the place is very nice!! I never knew though until this issue of Coral Magazine came out that all the money for it was donated by the Home Depot Founder.

The funny thing about that is the place has recouped all the money spent to build it in less than 2 years of operation. I doubt that Arthur Blank is not making money on this. I wish I had the smarts and capital to make money like he has.

I went to the Atl Aquarium about 8 months after it opened and for the cost of the tickets and what you get, (crowds and very little info about the inhabitants of the aquariums) I would rather go to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. It is a really nice smaller aquarium.

Randy's 2 part is a method of dosing/controlling Alkalinity/Calcium/Magnesium. It's made from easily aquireable, relatively inexpensive materials.
Several local reefers (poknsnok, DaddyJax, Ah64av8tor, benf), and others I'm sure, use it in their reef system.
It was developed by Dr. Randy Holmes-Farley.
