.....but I'm going to ask it anyway.

Can you use silicone to install acrylic baffles in an acrylic sump, or do you have to Weldon them in?

Most Silicone will not stick to acrylic.:headwalls::headwalls:

There are a few rtv that will but the acrylic solvent cement is easier to use and looks much nicer.

I understand, the acrylic weld is harder to get a hold of, so, here is how i did it. I cut small strips, about 1 inch wide, length is unimportant, 3 inches or so. after you caulk in your baffle, take 4 of these strips and put them vertically on either side of the baffle on both sides, it will keep it in place even with water pressure, the acrylic tends to bend too much for silicone to hold it and then pulls apart, this helps that, now if you plan on having multiple baffles close together, like a bubble trap, then cut the strips as wide as you will want your baffles apart...in my case i usually do 1".

Here is a quick simple sketchup

Red lines are baffles, blue boxes are strips.

sorry if it is overly simplistic, but hey...mspaint, and it gets my point acrossed i think lol

It usually does not stick for long, and many years ago I did like teneseebob did and it did hold for a while, but slowly began to fail, silicone turned ugly yellow.
For what you put into paying for material and building do yourself a favor and use weldon, it's really super easy to work w/.

+1
Silicone will not adhere long term to acrylic. Use the right product for job and get ahold of some weldon or the equivalent. Any plastics shop should have it, but if they don't, you can get it online from TAP Plastics, eplastics, amazon, etc.

Amazon prime: any Weldon # you want will be at your door in two days.
You can get applicator syringes too.

Hardly anything is hard to find anymore.

kk, listen to them, mine was in FW setup, so there is a very good chance it is drastically different in SW lol

Hey nothing wrong w/ making do and like I said I had done the same thing once, but yeah, now days it's so easy and fast to get what we need to do it better.
I don't even think it takes 2 days to have weldon on your porch, and it's not expensive.
