Potter's plucks Monti clean. What do?

I had a Potter's Angel for 3 months before it was eaten by my carpet. The angel never touched my corals, loved mysis. Carpet has since been moved to a 6g Fluval Edge and I just got a replacement Potter's Angel 4 days ago.



It's been shy during feedings and basically ignored the mysis right in his face. Maybe he was full from eating all the polyps off of this Montipora.



I am nervous that even when well fed down the line he might still pick at my SPS. Should I exchange him immediately? There will always be a risk, right? I don't know if I could sleep at night knowing what he's already done and what he is capable of.

Once they start picking they won't stop. Also, there's a good chance your last potter's would have eventually picked at corals as well..

Yeah Potter's have a high tendency for
that. Either remove the fish, or take out the coral. If you still want a dwarf angel try and flame or coral beauty. Those have the highest success rates for being reef safe that I've seen

Any healthy Angel will eventually learn to pick at corals. Due to their omnivorous nature I would submit that Angels probably aren't suitable for a smaller tank.
On another note, feeding your fish Mysis is and expecting them to thrive is folly. Angel fish need lots of greens to thrive long term. Supplement with fresh squid or steamer clams. Freeze them and shave some off every day as a treat but the bulk of their food should be norri or broccoli. The Angel fish and the tangs need a lot of green stuff to be regular long term. If you feed the usual as recommended by most in this hobby, they will live a couple of years maybe. If you feed them enough greens and fresh meat to thrive, they will live for decades. Yes this is from personal experience. My guys love the broccoli.
