I purchased a powder blue about 2 months ago and the only thing he will eat is nori dipped in garlic and selcon. Why wont he eat anything else I tried formula 1 and 2 pellets, cyclopeeze, brine shrimps, mysis, flake spectrum. spectrum pellets finicky...nothing works.

I don't think he's getting everything he needs from soaked nori.

need help any tricks would be appreciated.

My Kole only eats red nori with garlic, dipped in selcon or not. Well, he does eat the other fish's poo, but that's it, no meaty foods whatsoever. He is nice and plump though.

I am pretty sure that is their primary diet so you should be fine. I have seen people rap misis/brine in the nori also.

That's odd that yours is so picky. I've had mine about 8 months now and he's always eaten anything I put in there. He does love the nori. You can at least provide different kinds of nori. I feed Seaweed Selects and rotate between 3 varieties of it. He'd probably eat all kinds of nori.

My PBT ate just about everything that I put in the tank. I would bet that if you keep putting it in the tank the fish will eventually try some of it. Just continue to monitor its health for now I suppose.

the powder blue is in quarantine right now because of an ich outbreak thanks to him I had to remove all my fish from the main display and put them all in quarantine...when he was in the reef or my main display he never ate anything else than nori. I have read that when you keep fish in quarantine you can train them easily to eat different foods. He's been in hypo treatement for 2 weeks now with no sign of ick he eats well but only nori...any tricks on feeding something different?

It is a herbivorous fish in the wild and would eat algae almost exclusively, I don't see it as a concern. Try and vary the type of algae fed and it should be very healthy on that alone. It should eventually take to other foods, it may just take a while.

I seem to have good luck getting finicky fish to eat by adding bloodworms first. After a few days I add other foods mixed with the bloodworms.

try hikari S soaked in Kent Zoe and garlic. IT will soften the pellet.

Also you may try not doing nori a few days and then just offer pellet/flake/pe mysis--put some garlic on it so he'll hit it. Once it tastes it, it'll most likely add it to its menu.

Mine eats everthing and nips my sps too.

if he had ich and is now recovering i would keep feeding nori soaked in selcon. you can also rotate the seaweed as stated. then leaving him in the QT tank by himself try other types of food.

Try Rod's Reef. Either the original or the green Algal version. Its all natural, fresh and it has helped me get even the pickiest eaters eating. There is so much fresh variety that every one finds something and the picky eaters seem to be encouraged to try new things.

Do you see it picking on the rocks and glass? It's quite possible that it's getting plenty to eat from the microalgae on your rocks, etc.

Maybe in the reef that's possible but not in quarantine, no microalgae there!

Ah - my bad - I missed your earlier post saying that it was in QT. :-)
