Powder Blue out for Ich hypo, what about the others?

Satori

Cancer Sucks
My Powder Blue tang started getting some spots on his fins and body, so I pulled him out and put him in a 37 gallon to start hyposalinity treatment.

My question is, what about the rest of the fish in the main tank? None of them show any signs of Ich. Can I just treat the PBT in the hypo tank and leave the rest in the 180? As long as I continue to feed the others well and watch for any symptoms?

no because once you put the powder blue back in the tank he will get ick again you have to treat the hole tank
Ditto. No sense in going through the trouble of treating the powder blue only to reinfect it later.

Thanks for the replies. Man this is going to be tough, but I probably don't need to tell you guys. I've been trapping all day, even took off work. I got 4 fish so far, but the rest are either too skittish or learned from other's mistakes.

Ideally, I would have liked to wait several days to catch more fish, but I felt I really needed to start reducing salinity in the QT to treat the PBT. Since getting started, it'll be a lot harder on any other fish I catch and try to acclimate to the much lower salinity.

There are some fish that I just will never catch without totally tearing down my 180 reef. Sand gobys and neon goby come to mind.

Why don't you treat your PBT in QT as planned and treat your display tank .... and all other fish remaining in display tank ... by reducing salinity down to 1.019 (or whatever the target is) for 3-4 weeks (or whatever the proper duration is)? I have not been in your situation before, but I have read of this approach. Am I missing something?

See here for tips on how to get the rest of those fish,

A true hyposalinity treatment is 1.009, which would kill any invertebrates in the display.
