Here's the funny part...

Now I've had him for approximately 2 years. For the first 7-8 months it was Nori only, and algae grazing. After that he started to eat everything.

He will eat Prime Reef Flakes, Formula 2 Pellets, and NLS Pellets. He doesn't care much for frozen foods.

Here's my feeding schedule (been this way for 2 years now):

Monday - 1/4 Sheet of Nori in the morning only

Tuesday - Nori/Homemade mix at 5:30. Then homemade mix again at 7, and again at 8PM. Small quantities each feeding, I don't really go nuts.

Wednesday - 14 Sheet of Nori in the morning only

Thursday - Same as Tuesday

Friday - Same as Monday/Wednesday

Saturday - 1/4 Sheet of Nori in the Morning, another 1/4 sheet at 4PMish. Periodic homemade foods at various times throughout the day.

Sunday - Same as Tuesday/wednesday.

The homemade good I feed about a Table Spoon total, and break that up into different feedings. It's Rod's Frozen, with my own special mix of added fresh frozen seafoods like shrimp, clams, mussel, etc. All enriched with fresh garlic.

I include Prawn Eggs as well, but that isn't touched by the bigger fish.

What makes these fish so hard to keep i have had no luck whatsoever in the past year i have tried a powder brown lasted 3 weeks 1st blue got ich and died within a week 2nd blue lasted about a month in Qt tank while dt was totally free of fish for 10 weeks to get rid of the ich in it waited till Nov to get another blue it never showed any signs of ich or illness would eat pretty well anything pellets, mysis, algea sheets grazed on the rocks constantly. tank mates are a yellow tang (small) yellow wrasse, leopard wrasse,2 perc clowns and a mandarin a few anemones and several corals all other inhabitants have been in tank for over a year and doing great this blue lasted 2 months and was fat and healthy untill yesterday it never came out at feeding time and cant even see the body anywhere it just disappeared i guess the crabs and urchins took care of it tank is a 90 gal with 2 koralia 4s
and a strong return from sump has plenty of flow 6 t5 54w bulbs running a good skimmer water parms are good only iffy thing is nitrates are running around 10 - 20 cant seem to get them any lower but i wouldnt think that this is the problem any ideas?

well i didn't want to post pictures until the fish was in the DT, but here is:

I thought this guy was pretty cool because he had a cherry blossom pink tail (much nicer than the picture). I'm not going out on a limb to say it was a achilles hybrid, probably just a colour morph.

Turned out when my father went to feed the guy in the QT, he went bezerk and banged himself up real bad, so much that he went belly up. After a few hours he would just hide in the PVC pipes, (though i did catch him sampling some pellets still on the aquarium floor).

So a grand total of 4 hours after the incident, I next found him dead.

Man that was a bummer, the fish was pretty much 2 days from being put in the DT after 14 days of quarantining, eating everything (pellets, nori, mysis, brine, bloodworms)

..was really looking forward to this.

That is a real bummer. The tail color may be from stress. Maybe the quarantine tank was too small for the fellow and he freaked. I put mine into the main tank with plenty of live rock hiding places. It really is hard to say what the issue was with this fellow. Big bummer. If I wanted a Powder Blue, I would give another try in the main tank and get mine from Drs. Foster and Smith Diver's Den. They have a real healthy looking 5" Powder Blue see is what you get as this is written. They also have small, medium, and large Powder Blues in stock. Their fish are always top notch and they will give you a 14 day warranty.

that really sucks, what size was your qt tank?

the pbt i just got from blue zoo i decided to just put him straight into my display and i didnt notice but he is really, really skinny with a whiteness around his head. although i am very upset about this i have been able to get him to eat a ton. so hopefully all will go well with this guy. i will post up pics tomorrow. its hard to get a decent one though, everytime i go up to the glass he swims away and hides.

A PBT is an awesome fish but I recently lost an entire aquarium full of fish due to a PBT that got Ich. A few thousand dollars later, I will not buy another PBT even though I think they are very cool fish.

No, his tail was pink when I got him.. which I thought was pretty cool.

The only fish that got more excited from seeing me in the QT (NLS pellets in hand) was my butterflyfish.

You can see his chest lacks the white colour (as does his anal fin). He was way skinnier when i got him, but fattened up respectably in the 14 days I was keeping him.

Anyways he was in the 29 gallon QT.

-- I appreciate the nod towards bluezoo and LA, but they dont ship to where I live. I do kind of like the excitement of going to the LFS when they are unpacking the recently arrived fish (though im' pretty sure they think i'm bugging them)

Sad too hear that looks to be a possible color morph? The bottom fin is blue which should be white also the top fin looks to be edged in black which most are edged in white? Any how sorry about the loss...

Emilio I am digging your tank. Where you hiding your pics/build thread on that baby? If I had that tank I would have pictures posted everywhere on reefcentral.

Id definately like to see some more pics of it, parameters, equipment, size, fish list, etc. I lovveeee the aquascaping.

Tangs are a groovy fish and your tank is wayyyy coool.

I have decided to add a Dwarf Eibl's Angelfish and a Clown Tang at the same time on Friday. Also, at the same time, I will add my twice a week mixture of cut up pieces of Ocean Nutrition Red/Green sea weed, freeze dried mysis & brine shrimp with Selcon added with a bit of tank water in a 1/4 measuring cup. When I feed this way all the fish reach into the cup as soon as I dip it into the water. My strategy is two fold to avert any lengthy aggression. Add two or more fish at once and feed well when introducing the new inhabitants. Since the Powder Blue is the self appointed "official" initiator of all new tank inhabitants which usually takes about a day, I know this strategy will be my best chance to have a happy outcome for all.

Thanks, you can find it here http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1749739 or here http://salt-city.org/showthread.php?t=11915 I am new to RC, I like the information that is found here, not to mention the information is coast to coast and around the map.

should a pbt be placed in a 180 w 4 other tangs...all about 3"?
How big is the PBT going to be? Is this going to be your last tang? What are the other type of tangs do you have now? How is your tank aquascaped? Is there enough room for the PBT to dash around and hide when he hits the water in a new home? The reason for all the questions I ask, is your question can be answerd by saying yes... Then BAM it looks like Custards Last Stand in your glass box. The new PBT may be left alone or with its flippers all but missing. Others have been all excited to add the new PBT to only find themselves looking at their tank with a gaping jaw, panic and then chase the chewed up PBT with a net in hopes to save the fish and add it to a QT tank. Only to find in a few days that the PBT has croaked. Most multi tang owners have been a witness to this one time or another. I added a large Clown tang and my Sohals left it alone but my yellow tangs almost pulled it apart. I have a Black tang that will rival and do mortal damage to all of my tangs, he has his own glass box . I have a pair of PBT's in my 300, I am very lucky to have them. There is a lot more to deal with, than just telling a person what will get along with what kind of tang. Each fish is different, every tank is different and every PBT may have its own attitude. I have learned to think it out and do what you are doing ask questions. You are going to hear a lot yes and no answers. Look at all the pros and cons of each.

Powder Blue Tang eating

Powder Blue Tang eating

My Powder Blue tends to go for the smaller pieces of seaweed and freeze dried brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. When first acclimating it to the tank it seems like it started out eating freeze dried and frozen brine shrimp. It seems to have a smaller mouth which maybe causes it to like its food in small forms rather than other fish. I would not call my Powder Blue finicky, just a good eater alhthough not a fish which seems to gorge itself. That being said, its behavior is one of the dominate tank fish with which any newcomer must make peace.

It has perfect complexion and is full in the body although I do not think I would call it chubby.:D

My PB eats anything. He is also very aggresive towards other tankmates. New additions apy a price for about a week. I have had several PB's and they always trive in my 180.
