Powder Blue Tang

Get it from either Live Aquaria or Pet Solutions, both have great stock, healthy and a great money back guarantee.
You pay more for it in the long run, but look at it like, you "bought a warantee".
We got ours from Live Aquaria....GREAT!!! I must say

I would second Live Aquaria. Here's a pic of mine 10 days after he arrived from Live Aquaria. How many PBs have you seen in fish stores that look like this upon arrival?

Can anybody shed some light on why that would happen? I've seen that before too.

My PB has never had ick...not even when first introduced to the tank. I am running an 80w UV though....although I've never been able to fully quantify just how effective UV units are in controlling water born diseases like ich. Question: Are those of you who have PB with ick occurrences running UVs?

I ordered my Powder Blue from petsolutions.com in february and he has been healthy as can be since I had him. He didn't eat for three days and then he began to eat cualerpa as soon as I introduced it to him. From there he began to eat everything.

I now feed him formula two pellets (garlic), Omega One Super Vegi (contains spirulina), red macro algea sheets (seaweed selects), green macro alega sheets (seaweed selects), Frozen Mysis, Frozen Krill, and occasionally cualerpa. He eats anytime food goes into the tank. He is housed with a Purple Tang and a Clown Trigger. There is only little aggression shown in the tank. He has never had ich, not even when I first recieved him from petsolutions. When my hands are in the tank he is always investigating what I'm doing. Mine is a very healthy and curious fish.

At first I was nervious about getting one and wondered what I did after I had ordered him and now I'm confused about what their difficulties are? Hopefully none come in the future.

one of the most beautiful fish out there. mine completely disappeared over a 3 day weekend. not on the floor, not in the tank, and he didnt have ick when i left. but, i would be willing to try it again just for their beauty.

powder blue

powder blue

I have had my powder blue now for only five weeks. This is my third try at them. I had them before with no problem but keeping ick under control. I lost my last two do to a big fish crash, from adding in a new fish. This new ptb has been the lfs for four weeks, before I took him home. At my lfs, anything that is in good shape stays around for more then a day. It's a big store and reef/salt water keeping in my town is hudge. So seeing a fish that you like and letting it sit there for two weeks to see how it's going to be, doesn't happen here. Anyway this fish had been hanging around for awhile. No one would buy him cause he had a little ick and is skinny. I made a deal with the store owner and I brought him home. He swims all over and is not scared of me. Still has a little ick but I think he is tough and will fight it off. He eats mysis, brine, formula two flake and nori. The thing I'm worried about is how skinny he is. I read in this post to feed formula two pellets, so I tried it tonight and he just nibbles on it but won't take it in. I'm afraid he might have internal parasites. His face is skinny also his back but his stomach nice and round. I also see him going #2 so I know he's not clogged up.

Any advice would be much appreciated!!!!

The big secret is to buy a health one and eating flakes.

DonÃ"šÃ‚´t buy any fish if he is not eating flakes

Good Luck !

Keep nori sheets and red graceleria in the tank 24/7 until he fattens up. He should graze all day if you have food available for him in the tank.....as they do in the wild.

I want to keep only tangs in my newly established 115g tank, I love PBT and yellow tangs. Should I introduce PBT into the tank as the first fish inhabitant? Will PBT and yellows co-exist?

I have a PB and yellow together without any problems. Most problems occur between tangs of the same family. That said, I would introduce them at the same time if that is an option.

I just added a PBT less than a week ago. He is eating EVERTHING. He/She is about the size of the palm of a large man's hand. My concern is it seems way to active. It swims around from the time the lights come on till they go off. Its beautiful and I love it. Its tank mates are a Harlequin Tusk, Majestic Angel, Queen Angel, Flame Angel, Domino Damsel, Lawnmower Blenny, and a Cleaner Wrasse.

I knew I would get one so I let some hair algea grow. It kinda grew more than I wanted it to because I couldn't find the PBT immediately. It seems to like picking at the hair algae. No ick yet (knocking on wood).

I watched mine at LFS for 3 weeks. Had to have him. Was eating within the 1st day. The color was alittle pale. Have read due to stress and mood. If in an agressive mood have also read they will be pale in color. He is be vibrant in color now didn't take long. I do run an 18 watt UV. Great fish-great center piece. Mine is a good 4 to 4 1/2" long. Will be upgrading to either a 5 or 6ft tank.

I have kept two of these guys over the last few years. One I bought from an LFS, and one from Saltwaterfish.com. I never had any trouble with both. In fact I am not sure at all why people say they are difficult??? They both were/are a dream to keep. Wonderful fish! I think that diet is key and healthy water params. I feed them all the different dried seaweeds on the market (Julian Sprungs', Ocean Nutricians etc...) and they love it. I didn't have any trouble with them eating in the first place. Perhaps I was just lucky, I dont know.

Put a PBT in LAST.
Mine kicks the living hell out of any new fish I add. But all the fish that where in the tank he don't bother. The PBT and my Regal Tang get along like 2 peas in a pod if you can beleave it.
