Powder Blue Tangs and ICH

has anybody had a powder blue tang and kept it ICH free? I heard no matter how long you quarantine it, it will always have this parasite. Is this true?

Simply not true. If you have a sound quarantine procedure (I recommend Tank Transfer Method for Cryptocaryon), you can eliminate the parasite completely, irrespective of species.

Something else to consider. Perhaps you have ich in your DT. If you follow due diligence with QT on a new fish, and put it in a DT that has ich in it, your new disease free fish will be exposed to ich, and will likely be affected by it...

PB's are especially prone to it, so if you have ich in your DT (can exist without showing itself as long as there is a host) your PB will probably be effected...

Absolutely correct.

I have a it free powder blue, The key is to make sure it is out of the display tank, meaning going fishless for a good 10 weeks, personally for me the only way to 100 percent guaranty you fish does not have ICH is using something like cuppermine. Now the key then after this is that you have to QT absolutely everything wet, that includes any corals, inverts, limerick. Anything wet can carry ICH.

my tank was fallow for 3 months due to a prior it outbreak. i recently got a copper band, a couple wrasses and a regal angel and quarantined them all and they are now in the display with no signs of ich.

i only have 1 , 75g quarantine tank. can i just do a couple of hypo salinity treatments just to be sure?

we have a PBT for about 14 months now and never had ich (but have also never had ich on any fish in this tank).

No, and yes .....

Proper QT will render any fish ich free; however, if you have 'latent' ich in your tank then upon introduction any of the ich 'magnets' will get re-infected. My own personal suspicion is that many folks who believe their tanks to be ich free are actually mistaken. Not all, clearly; but many. It is also possible to QT incorrectly, thus masking but not eliminating symptoms that then re-appear.

You cannot just QT fish for ich. You MUST treat all fish as if they have ich. Some will never show signs and symptoms of ich and if not treated will bring ich to your DT. Most likely one of the fish put in the DT had it and reinfected your DT.

Proper Tank Transfer will cure the fish of ich.
