Powder Blue with Achilles?

Swimming in the School
So do you guys think the two should be OK together? I already have the PBT, he's about 5 inches. Tank is a 340 gallon with an 8'x4' footprint and about 350lbs of live rock. Open aquascape that still has lots of caves, and a swimming lane all the way around the tank.

That's tough one. Those 2 tangs are on the top of the list for aggression with Tangs. Same family, shape, little different color. IMO, I wouldn't take the list because if it don't work you will have hell trying to get 1 out.

Maybe in the short term but as they both continue to grow, so will aggression between one another and toward anything added to the tank after them

I have both in my display tank which is 94" x 30" x 30". It has been ~4 years. The achilles rules and for the most part they don't bother each other. I added all my tangs at the same time and when I did, the achilles may have been ~4" and the PBT ~3".

If I was in your situation, I wouldn't do it unless I could remove the PBT, rearrange some rock work and introduce them at the same time. I think if you add an achilles to an established PBT, the end result won't be good.

I agree

Well, as far as moving rocks that isn't an issue as this tank has no coral. The plan was hopefully to add an Achilles tang, a Moorish idol, a purple tang, and a flame angel at the same time to help limit aggression towards anyone. Current tangs include a yellow, 2 sailfins, a scopas, the PBT, a lavender, a hippo, and a vlamingii around 14" long. There's also a regal angel, a Koran angel, a grey poma angel, a rock beauty angel, and a coral beauty angel.

You have all of that in a 180 gallon????? Why are you even thinking about adding anything else. I feel sorry for those fish. Just my opinion that is very bad fish keeping.

@ jbvdhp...notice my post I said my bad... the OP had his old signature block and I saw 180 and freaked out LOL.. I was like all those in that tank, but he has a 340. I did apologize.

I have the 2 in a 320G. I added a BPT about 2 years ago and I have had my Achilles for about 8 years.

Although, I waited until my upgrade and added the PBT to my new 320g tank and then added my Achilles 2 days later before he had a chance to really get acclimated.

Even after 2 years they really do not get a long and occationally chase each other around, but not enough that I have to worry.

That all being said years ago I tried adding a PBT with my current Achilles in a 180g and I had to remove the PBT as the Achilles would not let him have more than about 1 foot of the 6 foot tank.

Best bet as others have said is to introduce the 2 fish at the same time.
