Powder Brown + Purple + Kole Yellow Eye

Will this combination work in a 180? Would love to hear from anyone with experience keeping this combo in a 180 or smaller. I'm slightly concerned about the aggressiveness of the Purple towards the others. I would QT all three together and buy them at about the same size.

I kept a purple and kole in a 150. The purple was larger and had no issues with the kole

I don't think you'd have trouble with the purple. You might have more problems between the Kole and Powder Brown. However they are all from different families. I would maybe QT the Kole and Brown together and then QT the purple at a later time. I would also buy a larger Brown than the kole. Brown is probably the most timid of the two. Purple could be the most aggressive do should be added last. I would also try to find a smaller one, not too small though.

This seems to be logical. You don't think there would be any issues between the Kole and Purple if the Kole is there first? You suggest a small purple, but should it be smaller than the other tangs?

No I don't think you'll have issues between the purple and kole. I have a purple and mimic and they ignore each other. Yes it should be smaller than the other two. Brown's can be tough so anything to make life easy for them is the best. Koles can be jerks. Thus the size recommendation. I sometimes think purples get a bad rap. Mine doesn't pick on anyone but also doesn't take any flax.

Purples can definitely be mean (as any zebrasoma is), but powder browns aren't the nicest fish either - very similar personality to a powder blue IME. Obviously it comes down to individual fish, and if you start with juvies that are all about the same size that will start you off in the right direction. I think you will be fine with that combo in a 180, but I'd add them at the same time if possible.

I have a Purple and a Kole tang in my 120. The Kole had been with me for some time before the addition of the Purple. The Purple was a bit smaller than the Kole and the Kole showed him who was boss for the first day- maybe a bit on day two. Now they are friends and pick at the rocks together. No issues for me.

I had a purple, chevron, and powder blue all in one system without issue. In a 180 put in together I think you'll be fine.
