Powder foods for Tubastrea

Hi guys,

I'm looking to move towards a full Non-Photosynthetic tank. At the moment I only have a couple of Tubastrea, however I was thinking of starting to continuously feed powdered foods, like the FM range, to try to encourage the Tubastrea to open most of the time.

Can anyone recommend which food would be best to begin with? It seems a little expensive to jump right in and buy a tub of every food type straight away!

Thanks guys

I would not recommend solely feeding nps lps corals on powdered foods. They require meaty foods at least 3 times a week. I tried the same thing you are going to try with strictly lps corals and I felt Like I was wasting food. So I tried putting some nps gorgonians and they thrived, and the nps lps were open almost 24/7. If you were to pick one food I would choose ultra sea fan if you were going to try and keep gorgonians along with the lps corals. What I did to automate feeding was I bought a few auto fish feeders from petco and filled them with the fauna Marin food. They only feed 4 times a day so I got 2 to start off with and got a feeding ring to make sure the food wouldn't disperse on the surface. This worked very well for me. I gradually added more gorgonians and even my Crinoid thrived with this feeding setup. I would not recommend using this system for dendronephthyas and other nps soft corals until you have worked out all the kinks in your system and get into a routine with your tank maintenance. If you are only planning to keep nps lps I wouldn't recommend using a continuous feeding setup. I would invest in the Fauna Marin nps lps coral food pellets. They are a great food and will keep your corals in top condition. I believe their is also a color boosting part of the food so at would be something interesting to watch them color up.

Of you have any other questions please feel free to ask as many questions as you can. The more you know the better off you'll be and the better off your tank will look/be.
And don't hesitate to make a build thread to showcase your tanks progress.

Good Luck
