Power issues?

I lost power Friday night around 645 p.m., still out I have been running the pumps pretty regular, very limited lights, tough to control the heat since it has been between 95-100 every day.

Any one else struggling?

Lost our around 6:00 Friday too...still out.
Generator running pumps only at our house. No way to regulate heat there so I don't know..Dave said the reef was running in the low eighties over the weekend can't tell much about the corals there right now.
Down here at the "little house" running pumps, fan etc and got a window AC up and running Sat evening...turned on lights a while yesterday corals looked really stressed so we'll see... had to downsize the generator so no lights again but at least the temp here is 77.

I need a larger generator. I am going back and forth with the refrigerator and the freezer, keeping return pumps on the tanks running and a portable AC going - surrendered the upstairs. I turned the LED white lights on today for a while, got 5 hours on Saturday, wanting to get 5 hours today. I froze a couple jugs of water so I could drop one in the sump if the temp starts to increase too much. I sort of wish I ran hotter now so that it would be less of a swing. I use heaters at 76, so I am never over 78. I can see power 150yds from my house but they are on a different feed - that sucks.

hope you all get your power back quickly.

id offer to lend a generator, if i had one...

It's been 70 hours and counting so the quickly ship sailed a while back. Counting the little generator running the robot I'm running 3 generators. Let's just say we're going though a lot of gas :headwally:

Did just hear a truck is finally looking for the problem...sigh
Like Lloyd there's power all around us just a cluster of about 20 houses out...no lines down and the guy we keep talking to doesn't understand why it's still out but they are keeping him to busy to check it out. AEP replaced downed lines/broken pole behind the pool and managed to assure us several times replacing that line/pole won't solve our outage though...sigh again.

Well 20 minutes after the line truck finally arrived in the area he replaced the blown bus fuse:uzi: and We Have Power :bounce2::bounce2::bounce2:

Hope you're back up soon too Lloyd.

Mine was out till last night at midnight. I got lucky however the house on the street behind me had power so I stretched a 200 foot cord and plugged it into their back deck. I ran my pumps and cooling fan. No losses thank goodness.

While I don't even have a Betta tank at this point, I wondered how all you reefers were getting along during this event. Sounds like you guys got by well enough until the power came along. That's great to hear.

We got power back on at our place Sun about 3PM, internet came back up Monday about 6PM.

Amy - glad to hear you are back online. I borrowed a larger generator this morning from someone who now has power. Got the skimmer and lights going today. Can not imagine there will be no loss but hoping for the best. With such big populated areas still with no power, I am thinking my stretch of country road is likely to be black for a few more nights. I need to look into generator company stock - I suspect a lot more will be buying and upgrading (like me). I am running a 1300w Honda now. It makes half the noise, drinks about 1.25g per hour of gas = not so good, but better than the alternative.

Man that thing is getting horrible gas mileage for a Honda engine. My 4000 watt Briggs an stratton is about .5gph @ 8 hp.

I have a 5000w one, 10hp that I thought was getting 8 hours out of 5g........but then yesterday evening I filled it up at 3:30pm, at 10:30 pm it had stopped and was dry.

I am spending a bucket of money on gas, glad the cost is down. Actually I think that because we are in a state of emergency we are paying more for gas. Last night on the WV Turnpike regular unleaded was $3.29. I have lived in the Charleson area for 20 years and I have never once seen gas there lower than Charleston. I guess I should be glad I am not paying $4 a gallon as was projected back in the spring.

Had no power for 6 days. What I did on my 120g was to run 2 battery powered air pumps (Silent Air B10) to replenish O2. I was surprised how effective they were. My 3 tangs never showed signs of stress. There were no pumps running as well -- except for day 1 when MP40 was running for a few hours on backup UPS power. Sps did show signs of stress mainly due the 70F temp. Acans and chalices did not mind it.

Anyway the B10 ran about 4 days straight on 2 D batteries before I noticed that it started slowing down. I just chaged batteries and all was set. They were silent as well. I highly recommend them.

Great learning experience. Hated the heat and cold showers though.

In 3 hours I will be at 7 days. I never thought it would be 3 days, much less 7. At this time it appears as though I will lose my large candy cane colony and a brain that I recently acquired. Everything else looks as though it could hang in there - assuming I get relief at some point.
