Hi,
I was unprepared for an ice storm in southeast MI. I moved here from CA in October and have not purchase a generator and i didn't take the necessary precautions for a power outage.
A storm his this weekend and my power was out for almost 48hrs. It came back on at 7pm est this evening.
I have a 65g CTC tank with a 30g sump. The tank is 3mo old. It's stocked with 3 bg chromis, a false perc, and a midas blenny.. and some zoas, a hammer and a chalice.
I drove and called around like a mad man to find a battery powered air pump/stone and a indoor safe propane heater. I finally found both after numerous stops.
I kept the heater in my office (where the tank is located) with the door open during the day, and i had to move the heater from the upstairs landing to the office every two hours at night. I have a 15mo old daughter who needed the heat too. I ran the two air-pumps on each side of the tank.
The clown stayed out the whole time. The chromis and blenny hid in their sleeping spots the whole time.
When the power came back on, i let the tank run for 30min and then put some flake in the tank and thankfully all of the fish came out to eat. It was quite the relief.
The tank read 63.5 degrees when i turned it back on. Do you think my corals and fish are going to be okay? I keep the tank ~78 usually.
Needless to say, i am making an appointment with generac and getting a backup system for the whole house.
