power outage

I'm sitting here with my hand in the tank stirring the water as I'm stuck in a power outage. A truck exploded in flames and hit the telephone wires in a accident very close to my house. My hands will be prune by the time they get that fixed back up. (I believe the guy in the truck is okay) so I've heard

You should really buy a UPS (uninterruptible power supply). When you have a power outage, they let you have extra power on for like 3 hours or so depending on how much energy you use!

Sorry to hear that. I would suggest getting a pump hooked up to a battery backup system in the near future. I have had quite a few power outages at my house in the past. Good luck!

A very good poor man's solution is to get a car power inverter. Plug it into you cigarette lighter, run an extension cord to your tank, and hook up a pump. They make varying sizes and some can hook directly up to your car battery. (Make sure you start the car every once in a while to keep a good charge on the battery). Only draw back is that this approach doesn't automatically kick on in the event of an outage.

Their was a post like this on Facebook just a few days ago. A back up air bubbler is less then 20 bucks but most people wait until they need it. You don't need to be home as it will come on when the power goes out & turn off when the power comes back on.

Got a link or brand you recommend for the backup bubbler? I wouldnt mind having a cheap backup around just in case...

million air by Via Aqua is good. Penn Plax also makes one but the newer ones have a bad cheap plug which almost falls out of the socket. The wholesaler is in town so any fish store should have them or at least get it for you.

I'm more scared of the heat than anything.

Generator capable of powering a small AZ is a great insurance policy for summers in AZ
