Power Saver

They used to sell those for appliances, but now adays most appliances have that built into them. I was unaware they could work in the situation that link refers to. Have you posted on the DIY forum yet?

I've not posted it anywhere else... this is the only RC forum I have time to monitor. I see other examples of similar devices elsewhere now with about the same info.

Well I'll do the very unscientific thing now and call bullshot on this without any data :)

But things I noticed, the thing is simply plugged into a power strip, it's not plugged into what is being powered (the lamps in the example), so I don't see how something plugged into another socket really can affect it.

I'm not an electrician, I'm only a physicist, but I don't see how that can do any real damage, it mentions converting "Reactive Power" which "Does no real work" yet they mention that this magic black box uses a motor to convert that to "useful" power... however if it does no real work how does the motor operate?

What it looks like might happen is some capacitors charge, then discharge, and maybe the photo was taken at the discharged time, so of course it'll read less current from the plug, the black box is giving it, however you might not see it in an inbetween cycle where the current is increased as it charges up.

Eitherway, I'm sure it does something useful, just doubt its as useful as saving this much energy *shrug*, I'm especially weary due to the "patent pending" heater that kills algae at the top :D

The Algae killing device has been around for a long time. It works. Think a magnetic algae pad put this one has an inch square on it that heats up and oils the water against the glass/whatever of your tank. It kills the coraline...goes white almost instantly. It's a lot easy to get the coraline off after that. I have one which is why I got an email about the new product.

Do you think it's because it has the plastic disk glued to your gas tank to get better MPG vibe?

Yeah something like that. As mentioned I"m not an electrician, hell I only took a semester of electronics in college (granted an upper division level but still). Seems if a light fixture uses a certain amount of power to work, it will still need that same amount regardless of if the power which "does no real work", gets converted to something magical.

Hook a kilowatt meter to the end of that instead of a clamp on ammeter, and show the result after a day or so with and without the device and I'll be a whole lot more convinced.

Close, you wrap some magnets on your fuel line

My wife's Uncle swears it works. When I suggested that perhaps he started driving a little less lead-footedly after installing his magnets... his expression just glazed over for a second and when he returned to the now I felt sure he was going to say... but this one goes up to 11.

He still swears by them. I guess if they make someone who drives 30 thousands of miles a year, drive slower and more efficiently, they aren't a total waste.

I must pass on the freeway once in a while, I put in around the same milage :)

My friends father installed them on his work fleet, unbenounced to the drivers. No real change in milage for his fleet. Guess he shoulda told them he had installed them. Better yet, he should just tell them he's installed GPS in all fleet and can tell how fast any are going :) ANother friend did that to his vehicles and it's made a big difference. Mainly they don't take the scenic route any more
