Power still out :(

I don't get it, my whole neighborhood has burried power lines, it's got to be the feeder lines, and that's what Ameren says they are working on when you hear them on the radio....

I'm still running off the generator, I had been shutting it down at night and running the tanks of a power inverter and my truck, but after 2 days of that, and after all the neighbor's got generator's also, we're all just leaving them run all night, so at least I'm getting some sleep.

How much longer can I go without hooking up the hailides? They haven't run since Thursday, I've been using only the PC's for fear that the generator and MH ballast's might react badly to each other....

I ran mine for a few hours yesterday but I put a good quality surge strip between them. Didn't have any problems and they fired today on line voltage with no problems.

wise man once told me, buy, borrow, steal, the light. the corals need it. it wont be but a couple of days where the corals will start to freak out and RTN eventually they will parish, get light on them ASAP.

Great, just great ...

Well power is STILL out, Ameren tells me over the phone I'm supposed to be back on this afternoon.

I had to work today, but my boss took pitty on me and I'm leaving for home at noon.

I'm going to get the MH's plugged in, cause for the last several days it's only been the PC's on.

I haven't got much sleep lately, probly about 6 hours in the last 3 or 4 days, been too hot to sleep...

My 75gal upstairs is on the brink... It was 87.3 F in there when I woke up. It's a FOWLR tank, and I put some bags of ice in there to cool it back down.....

I've been thinking about tearing down the FOWLR tank, will a Magestic Fox Face and a FoxFace Lo get along in the same tank?

In the 75 gal - Coral Beauty Angel, Majestic Foxface, Fairy wrasse, varous crabs, and some kind of starfish I have never been able to properly ID, but it looks limilar to a chocolate chip star, only that it's bumps are yellow, and it's got orange around the fringes.

I was thinking about moving the star to my sump downstairs and the fish into the 120gal down there ?

I've got a 750watt power inverter you can borrow if you want- You can hook it up to your car battery and leave your car running and power your tank with it....

I have Clarks generator. You can borrow my chiller for a few days!!
I will also PM you-call me asap- JBJ arctica chiller

Thanks for the offer's all... Luckily my power was restored last night. I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief, plugged everything back in, re-set my skimmers, and went to BED!!!!

It's pretty hard to sleep after the temp in the house hit's around 85 degrees and higher! (The highest temp my house hit was 89.8 F ) That was WITH fans running off my small generator.

I'm still a bit messed up from the whole thing, I probly slept about 2-3 hours a night for 6 nights in a row :( I just don't sleep well in the heat, and worrying about fish tanks and everything else tends to keep you up as well.

Thanks again, also if anyone is still without power an needs to borrow a generator, PM me, It's a 3,550 watt Troy-Bilt with a B&S engine. Runs about 10 hours on 4 gal of premium...

Also a quick note to anyone that has a Briggs & Straton engine -
On my generator, I was having carb problems. Most told me it must be bad gas, but I found the actual problem!!!

The bowl carb on this model engine was either plated or painted with some type of metalic coating on the inside of the bowl. This coating "sluffed" off and cloged the ports in the carb. It took me about 1/2 a can of carb cleaner and lots of elbow grease to wipe that crap out of the bowl. But once I did it was nice and "shiny" again. After that I had to use more carb cleaner and a very thin wire to clean out the ports on the "bolt".

After I did all that, it ran like a champ... Almost continuous running (except 5 min cooldown/refuel every 8-10 hours) for 7 days straight...

So your talking around 60~70 gallons of premium gas for your 7 day nightmare?
70gallons@3.20 a gallon = $224

That sounds like a hell of a deal, considering most nano tanks have livestock worth more than that. Good job

Yea, I didn't keep exact track of the gas in the generator, as I was also refuel'n the truck (saving family memebers food using coolers and running back and forth between my house and thier houses)...

Your math sounds about right, I think I spent right around $200 in gas. However, If I were to add up the costs of just my Live Rock and corals in the two tanks (to say nothing of the fish and other inverts), I would be out in the tune to thousands of dollars. Of course we're talking about stuff that I've accumulated over the last 2 or 3 years now....

Almost forgot, only had one coral loss, a light green color'd brain coral, RTN'd on me the day after the lights came on. Eveything else seems to be OK, but I keeping a close eye on an acro and a milli that don't look just quite "right"...

After the all the mess-I am curious as to why your tank was hot?? From what I remember it was in the basement. Just curious? I am glad everything is well!
