power went out what do I do?

I think I have a problem. My power is out and won't come on for another seven hours. Of course, I have not splurged for a generator. Will my fish be ok until the power comes back on? Is there anything I can do to help?

Dont sweat it Chris.....just keep the temp warm. Change the carbon in the AM an get the water moving ASAP.

Any luck getting the power back on? In my experience temperature and oxygenation were the first things to cause problems but I had a lot of fish in my tank at the time. I ended up swirling the water and doing my best to blow bubbles through an airstone.

Cooler water holds more oxygen so that helps but keep an eye out for the fish breathing at the surface.

Don't forget, your fish are shipped from Fiji in a plastic bag. They'll be alright for a few hrs. I've heard some people will wrap their tank with blankets to keep the temp stable.

power inverter plugged into a (running) car's cigarette lighter can run a powerhead if necessary.

Thanks everyone. We did get our power back on in the we hours of the morning. So far everything looks ok, I will be monitoring over the next day or so to see if there are any casualties. The temp lowered to about 74, but now its back to 79.

yea i would be surprised if there were casualties from temps getting to 74...keep us posted though!
