Powerhead question

I would get 2 Jebao Rw-15 they are much quieter than a Vortech also three times cheaper and you can control them with your controller.

I have both vortech and jebao.

Vortech is louder and more expensive.. but it looks so much better since the cord is outside the tank.

Jebao is cheap and it works.. just huge..

for 125gal, I recommend at least 2 powerheads. One on each side of the tank.

I currently run 1 WP40 and 1 MP10. Had two WP40 but the wave was too crazy

2 x RW-8 for a 125 if you plan to have sand. 2 x 15's to much even at lowest speed in a 125. If you plan on going bare bottom 15's are fine.

I just asked this on the equipment thread. I came up with 2 rw-8s I will be ordering them with my extra reef breeders.

I would get bigger and dial it down, the range on the new Rw series is very wide 10%-100%. If you get RW8 and it will be not enough you will have to buy more.

Not true at all. 2 RW-8's are more than enough for a 125. I tried a second RW-15 in my 125 two days ago and it was a mess at the very lowest setting. I'm getting rid of it this weekend in fact, see below post.

You won't regret 2 8's. I'm betting in W1 at 50% you will have great flow. I'm still happy with one 15 at 70%.

Buy want you want guys but this was my experience when starting up.

1. Bought and 15 and was sent a 20 by mistake and didn't catch the mistake. I couldn't run the 20 at 10% without a mess.
2. Sent back and received a 15. Got it dialed in and really love it, but like every reef junkie I want to add more.
3. Bought another 15 and it wasn't in my tank for 20's mins. Trading it on Saturday for corals
4. If I were starting over tomorrow I'd buy 2 8's.

Good luck and have fun getting your tank up and running.

Thanks for the information and I'm trying to lol. It's hard to figure out everything I need to get and get it set up the way I want.

Personally I love my Sicce Voyager 3's. The design is superior when you take into consideration of using a wave maker. The constant starting and stopping beats the hell out of traditional powerhead and their internal clutches.

The Sicce does not use a traditional propeller type, pitched, blade, found on a lot of powerheads. They use a flat blade, so even if the powerhead starts backward, it will still push water, and not suck water in. While they are bit bulky, I am ok with with. My powerheads have been running for a few years now and are still super quiet, as well as their magnets being super strong.

Here is a great BRS video at Interzoo 2014 to check out that will go into detail....

Have you looked into the Maxspect Gyre. It's a DC pump that comes with a controller. I am really impressed with the reported flow of this piece of equipment. I don't have experience with it but it is on my Christmas list

I have two RW-8s in my 180 mixed reef and I currently have them in wave mode at 70%. They are very powerful. Two RW-15s will be too much in a 125.
