Powerheads @ night

Does anyone leave their powerhead a on @ night or turn them off for fish resting or general calmness at night?

If you have adjustable flow pumps it is okay (perhaps advisable) to slow them down at night. I run at about 60% of my daytime total flow at night.

I run my vortech mp10 at 25% during the night, during the day it's set to reef rest 65%.

My 2x MP40's run 5 different programs during the day.

At night they are set to constant 60%.

I looked at the tank last night when everything was supposed to be sleeping. The tangs were in their normal spot, the clowns in their anemones, and the shrimps looking everywhere.

It does take a bit for the critters to acclimate to the constant flow, but nature does not turn off at night and they do not have eyelids for fish.

I have one of my MP10s set to turn off and the other goes into constant mode at 30%. I would leave them both on but my clownfish likes to sleep right next to the other and I'm afraid he is going to get injured.

Try it one night. Let it run.. He will adjust the distance away from it to keep a good distance.
