PPE's

those fakes are desert fox, i believe.

Its the four polyps to the right I was referring to... And those that you were talking about are GSPE's... I should be able to get a comparison pic tomorrow... :)

ct_vol, It's hard to tell from that pic but they look like the real deal to me. What makes you think they are fake?

Here you go Jgos...

I'm not sure that they are fake, just maybe a different strain or morph or something... They're a bit lighter in color, and their full grown polyps are probably half the size...

LMK what you guys think... :D

Whats the deal with zoaid and PPEs .. each pic looks kind of different.

What color should the skirt technically be? the ones with the bright green they call a joker paly.

Maybe im slightly color blind. Could someone explain what the difference is and what each should look like?

Jokers are palys and don't have the green slit mouth. PPE's are Zoanthus gigantus. On PPE's the skirt and mouth should be green and the oral disc should be purple. PPE's can look different depending on the lighting, flow etc. Here's a pic of my PPE's. The color is lighter due to being in high light.

You're not color blind... Its hard to distinguish, because a lot of palys/zoas will change due to their environment... PPE's will speckle with hight lighting, and Jokers will turn more greyish, rather than deep purple...

People often confuse PHE's, PPE's, and Jokers... They all have green skirts and purplish centers... Of course with slight variations... lol ;)

PPE's are a member of the zoanthid gigantus family but most people refer to them as Palys because of their size... The PE types are known for their Green Mouth Slit and white striping evident on the polyp when closed...

Jokers are very similar to PPE's, except that they do not have the green mouth or white striping...

PHE's are a lot smaller, and I like their purple centers the best... Sometimes they'll develop a red ring, in the center, which is where they originate their name...

Thanks for the great clarification Im just lost on what a PHE is.. purple.. headed?

My other question is what about a PPE that has the green mouth and the stripes underneath (my RPEs have those so i guess they are gigantus too? i always thought it was cool!) ... but the skirt is not quite green but faded looking.. possibly a similar color to the oral disc or just brown

is that a result of different lighting\flow etc or another morph altogether. I'm wondering if they go in under the "fraudulent" kinds or if its just a morph

darned complicated stuff!

True PPE- large polyp palys with intense purple base, metallic green mouth and metallic green skirt.

PHE- regular zoas with purple base and green skirt. tend to develop purple green ring within base

fake PPE- large polyp palys with dull purple base. base can develop ****e speckles under certain lighting. dull green skirt with green mouth.

PPE's aren't paly's. Any zoanthus gigantus that has a purple oral disc, green slit mouth and green skirt is a true PPE. How intense the colors are depends on your lighting.

I will take a picture of 2 different PPE I receive under the same lighting and in the same location later. A few of the wild colonies that came in last year that claims to be PPE are not as intense in color.

PHE's are purple hearted emeralds... lol Just look on Zoaid...

All PE's are a member of the zoanthid gigantus family... Distinguishing between the different RPE's, is next to impossible IMO... I know I have at least 3 different morphs of RPE... And I've seen the price range between $2 and $20 per polyp... I think lineage and obviously coloration is more important with them... Some will look Red under any lighting, where as others will look more brown...

neyugn0w01~ Looking forward to the pics!!!!!

I dont think I believe in fake ones though.

No... But I think you'd better give me some, so I can have a third to compare... lol ;)

And I bet you don't believe in Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny either... :D

here are two varieties I have.. they both have a place in my tank... :D
