praziquantel quesiton....

When i first started in the hobby i read somewhere that praziquantel powder was preferable to prazi-pro. So i purchased a jar of the stuff, which is directed towards pond usage.

I was thinking of dosing my tank prophylactically since i am now fully stocked and one or two of the fish are pooping long stringing poops.

I cannot seem to find the original thread that lead me to purchase this stuff, nor can i determine appropriate dosage from the jar.

Does anyone have any view on whether and how to use this? Or should i just toss it and buy prazi-pro?

IMO; I would use the liquid Prazipro instead. Reason being is you can search this site and find multiple anecdotal accounts of folks using that successfully in their DT. I don't think I've read about anyone using the powder. Unless you want to be the first and tell us how it works out for you.

problem is that prazi pro is not that soluble, so in the liquid they use alot of additives to make it more soluble ... the same additives when added to a salt water tank cause a bacteria bloom [ like dosing organic carbon like vodka]

you need to mix the prazi with vodka for sure to get it into solution.

That happened to me. I dissolved the powder Prazi in a little bit of vodka which caused a bloom. The bloom sucked all the oxygen out of the water and the fish ultimately did not make it.
I don't think it really matters if you use powder or Prazipro because both products' give directions for dosages of 2.5 mg/l

The lead aquarist at a local marine science center told me to dissolve it in a very small amount of isopropyl alcohol. I have in the past ran the powder through a pair of pantyhose, mixed it in with some tank water and added to the tank.

Follow directions on product label. Most products call for a dosage of 2.5mg/l
I have used higher doses due to a very stubborn case concerning neobenedenia on a flame angel. That being said not all fish can handle a higher dose, such as wrasses. Also be sure to keep the water highly oxygenated.
Start out with the recommended dose and go from there.
