Pre mixed water

Does anybody use the pre mixed saltwater from maidenhead aquatics? Thinking of using it as tub of salt is most expensive and it's not pay day for a while. Is it any good, I normally use their rodi water and mix with instant ocean.

I'm not familiar with it, but generally premixed saltwater comes at a premium price. The company has to mix it up and pay way more to ship it around due to weight so cost inevitably will be much higher per gallon than mixing yourself. Likely fine to use if you want though.

Not sure if it makes sense to just hold off on a water change untill payday when you can buy a bucket of salt? I guess that may depend on your goals for changing water.

if you're in this hobby any length of time (unless you're running a nano or something) it usually makes sense to get a good RODI filter and make your own saltwater. that way you can also make your own top off, and it's a lot less hauling.

Owning your own RODI unit will pay for itself in the long run. I highly recommend getting one if you plan to be in this hobby for the foreseeable future.

Can I get one that could run off my garden tap? Don't really want to be cutting into pipes etc? Also how many Chambers would you recommend, I have seen them with 2 to 5? It's a confusing thing to look at.

There are just about as many ways to hook one up as there are plumbing fittings. A faucet adapter is one of the easier ways.

Mine is a 4 stage unit from www.buckeyehydro.com, although they are all fairly similar. It has a sediment filter, then carbon, then ro, and finally di. I got a 75gpd unit that came with all the necessary plumbing including a float valve for my storage barrel. It should also come with either a hand held or in-line TDS meter.

I would mix myself to spare me the hassle of hauling containers every week.
In this country where the water coming out of the faucet too often hardly deserves to be called drinking water I would always install an RO system in my kitchen to generate clean water for drinking and cooking. All you need to do to get suitable water for the tank is adding a DI unit.
BRS is a good source for complete RO/DI systems, but you also find good RO units on Amazon these days.

my RODI unit actually has a hose to quick connect adapter, so it screws right on to a hose bib no problem.

i like at least a 4 stage system. RO, carbon, DI, and sediment filter

Yep, most RODI units come with a variety of connectors for hooking up to the various household water lines. I like my 4 stage Bulkreefsupply unit. It works great for me. Since you have a larger aquarium...you might want to invest in something that does more gallons per day.

I think it would be fine, but test a bit of it before using when you don't make it yourself.
