Precision Marine Kalkreactor KR620

Hi. Recently I purchased the KR620 from Marine Depot. The unit I received has a shutoff valve and attached tubing mounted to the pump assembly. No picture on your site or Precision Marine's shows or mentions this valve, nor do the instructions. What is it for? I have opened the valve both with the pump running and without, and it seems to do nothing. Just curious, otherwise the KR620 works beautifully.

This is a drain valve for the unit. I just recieved this unit as well for x-mas and was happy to see that it came with the valve. This unit is know real similar to the GEO unit that also has a drain valve.

Before the valve addition you would have to take the lid off and turn it over to drain it.

That's nice to know, but I did open the valve; nothing came out. I did this the first time I needed to add Kalk thinking it would drain enough water to make it easier to get the Kalk in through the opening on top. Doesn't work for that, I guess.

Was the lid open when you opened the valve?

Yes, I removed the large center cap thinking that would allow some water to drain. I was able to pour a cup of Kalk mix (powder) in even without draining some water, so it's no big deal. That stuff dissolves fast!

Bump.....Walter, what's your opinion on this valve? Mine appears to do nothing.

Hi Griffer,

Thanks for the post, I contacted Precision Marine regarding your question, I found out from them that the valve is designed as a drain. It is used to help prevent water from overflowing when you add the Kalkwasser powder to the reactor , the black tube can be directed to a small container to collect the excess water. If your is not draining please be sure to check for any blockage, this is normally the case when working with Kalkwasser powder

This valve that you mentioned is good for removing water from the reactor chamber when you want to add kalk solution to the reactor.
