Preferred Shipping

When shipping within the same zone (such as a few hours away, or same state), what is the preferred shipping company. I know I can ship UPS ground cheaply and have the package held at the holding center and the package goes out at 4:30pm, and can be picked up at 8am the next day (it's like a really cheap overnight shipping!). I also see a similar program for the USPS, so I was curious in these cases if anyone had any preferences, or companies to stay away from?

I use USPS for non living items unless thier to big then it's the big brown unpredictable. (UPS) I don't pick up at the terminal(s) though.

I've had the best luck with FedEx, and the absolute worst with USPS...to the point I will not use USPS (even the so called guaranteed overnight service) for anything live or really important.

I definitely prefer UPS over the others. They seem to be on time much more often.
Another benefit for me, is that UPS actually delivers the packages to my door. USPS has a habit of leaving sorry we missed you notices in my mailbox, when I am home waiting for a package to be delivered.

If I lived somewhere else, my opinion may be completely different.

I heard that UPS handled parcels for USPS, but delivery is by USPS carrier.
