Presale..... Frag swap

Wow. $50 a table? I may have to reconsider...

1) Most people can make that $50 back in the sale of a few corals.
2) The Reef Club cannot continue to put on a frag swap every year and continue to lose money. We are doing this for the hobbyist, we are not trying to make money off anyone. We actually lose money in most instances. $50 is quite reasonable. Three $15 corals about pays off your table......
3) The agricenter is not cheap. We have tried, but not been able to find a better option.

I understand where you're coming from. I set up the early MTRC swaps, so I understand cover costs. Just seems like a big increase from last year (just donated $100 in coral for raffle).

Can I bring presales if I don't get a table? I was only planning on a styrofoam cooler with some pre bagged anyway. I don't generally make money at swaps. I generally spend what I make at other peoples tables (anyone who knows me should be able to confirm;)). Being 5 hrs away, if I can't cover costs to get there, my wife will not be happy with me going;).

One reef I will have the background with me saturday when i get there.
Jabo I will have the ammount we talked about 1/2 with me saturday.
I wanted to have the new tank running before saturday but I dont think I am goin to make it. but I have made plans for those nice coral additions I know I will not be able to pass up lol.

Couldn't agree more.

Come on Gary get a table you have nice stuff and I planned on spending at least $50 with you!!

Scratch that I will pay for your table in frag trades...Come on man!!

Problem solved. Didn't even occur to me, but got an offer to split a table:). I'm not normally this tight on money (especially when it comes to swaps), but precarious wife employment and a downward spiraling frag swap trend over the last four or five I've had a set up is taking its toll.

I still don't plan on bringing much, though, unless pre purchased. I'll most likely grab a handful of things in addition to any pre sales, but not like previous swaps. I've had issues with my tank at every swap I've been to in the last two years. Loading usually takes 3-4 hours, then a 5 hour drive, then unloading (after a day of work), only to do it all again the next day is more stress than I want these days;). Add to that the cloudiness i get with tank water, nsw, carbon filtration, without carbon filtration-cant find the cause). No problems for years, then nothing but. Got some seed cash for early purchases, but need to make a little more to get more;).

Below is a comprehensive list of what I have available. I've got a fairly extensive selection of tank raised corals. I plan on bringing any presells and a handful of what i think are cool corals. I've added a few new things to my normal list (several chalices I've had for a tear or so, some zoas, etc).

Definitely willing to trade, but I'm picky these days. Just fragged a bunch of coral this weekend for another endeavor (hence the smaller size on some frags-I usually let them grow out for a while before selling), so space is limited, also. Always looking for odd, even if it's colorless. If its different than something i have, im usually interested. Will consider nicely colored weeds. Would love to find an electric blue with gold tip cespitularia (lost mine a year or so ago). ORA has it listed on their website.

I plan on packing up and leaving town Friday night, so please contact me via pm or email of interested in anything:). If interested in any pics, let me know which and I'll get something posted. Email might be easier there. Mine is my username at att dot net.

Gary, put me down for a Red Planet. I may get more coral. I need to go back and look at the list again. I just paid your half table off, or your gas, :)

Wow. The responses I've gotten already cover my trip. That's not usually the case for me. I was just worried about covering... After an impromptu trip to Maryland to visit a sick grandmother and other more recent events, My stress levels are higher than I normally let them get. I'll make a donation to the club since I'm covered on expenses already (as atonement for being a bit of a baby;)).

Now it's just money for more frags (hoping JF has a few things I can't pass up).

Bryan,

I'll call around 5. I'm usually home by then.

Thanks everyone. Sorry to be whiny. Last couple of weeks, life's been kicking me squarely in the butt, from several angles, so im staying a little on edge... I'll take a few more chill pills;).

I know you mentioned the downward spiral of frag swaps for you. Fortunately, ours has been growing bigger and better each year. This is expected to be our biggest and best yet. :) I'm excited. The raffle prizes are awesome. Can't wait to see JFox corals. Hope I don't go broke at his booth, I have to go to MACNA next weekend. I need to save some money. :) Glad you're coming!

I usually spend about a grand (coral sales making most of that) at swaps. There's just too much crack... Can't pass it up.

My downward spiral on swaps has been something procedural on my end. For about the last two years, I start getting cloudy water 1-5 hrs after setup. Running carbon doesnt help and water changes don't help. Ive tried taking new saltwater with me to avoid cycled water from breaking down on the trip (everything swap wise is about 5 hrs from Montgomery). I've tried cycled water (worked flawlessly for me for the first six years of swaps. Now, cloudy water. At the last montgomery swap, i had my tank setup at 7, friday. Was there until midnight helping people setup. Tank looked great when I left. Came back the next morning and it was cloudy and half my corals had died. I live 10 minutes max from the venue, so that brought me way down. Hard to make sales with cloudy water and unhappy coral... Just haven't figured out the cause...

For Nashville this year, I hadn't made the decision to take coral until 12:30 the night before (evilMel twisted my arm via text;)). Since I didn't plan, I packed about 20 some odd corals in bags and took them in styro. Sold them all. It was so much less stress, too. Came home with $3 in my pocket and a ton of new coral:). I'll do a little more for this one since I have a little more time to plan, but I don't plan on bringing a big setup. I will bring a good bit more coral now, but I plan on pre packaging and displaying a representative sample in a small tank. I have a hard time stopping myself when I start packing, though. Just filled my frag tanks, so it's going to be tough picking... Since I've been hit up for a lot of SPS, ill definitely bring some of the sticks and mounds. Probably a few chalices and other odds and ends (cyphastrea, etc).

Gotcha. The jingle bells and snipersps are relatively new cuts, so they are smaller than I normally like to sell (just forewarning-I usually let them encrust first). The toxic green (neon green) and the PCP Blue and green (japonica- light blue-green base with green polyps) are mostly or fully encrusted onto the tiles I use. I don't plan to bring any extra fresh cuts on the cyphastrea, but will have a couple of the others extra. Im bringing two and three pieces of a couple dozen different things.

For montis, I have orange cap, Idaho grape cap, tyree flower petal, tyree strawberry fields, spumosa (also called spongodes), one smallish frag of seasons greetings (not completely covering the plug), pokerstar/rainbow, a couple of copps SM Monti, and PCP Sand Dollar (more likely porites, but like the sand dollar Monti, but light blue with purplish red polyps). I run LEDs over every system but my display (getting to it slowly), so I'm not sure what the sand dollar will do under other lighting. Its not as impressive under MH and VHO (though still a different growth form). Let me know what floats your boat;). I'll likely have a couple of most of those, but don't have a few on my list. I can cut setosa and sunset, too.

Under royal blue LEDs (whites not in yet). Can't really see base color (disappears under blue led).
