IMO I'd start with 60% of new purchase prices

IME, 50% or less is more realistic. You'll end up parting it out because the chances of someone buying the complete setup is pretty close to nil.

I wish I could be more optimistic but that's been my experience.

don't know when i'd start back up again. Plus i'm moving so if i were it would probably be a downgrade. I'm in chicago

You will lose a lot of money selling. No sense in just rebuying if you intend to set up setup again unless you plan of downsizing. Parting it out will make you the most money and most people aren't looking for whole setups.

It doesn't really matter it is a year or less old equipment you will still take at least a 50% loss if not more. Used equipment is a buyers market and not so much for sellers. I've seen lots of nice setups just sit for months and not even a bite or a nibble. Tanks usually sell for 50 cents to a 1.00 for larger tanks, stands are very little value unless it's a high-end custom stand. Live Rock is 1.00-2.00 dollars a pound. Live sand I usually see most people have to literally give it away. You'll get the most money out of Livestock and Corals. The 4 hydra's maybe 500 if you are lucky and I mean very lucky!!! The sump would be 100-150 tops. I'm not going to keep going as by now I'm sure you get the idea. Maybe you'll get lucky but I'd say definitely expect a 50% loss regardless and honestly I think 40% is probably more realistic. It doesn't matter if it is 3 months old or a year old it's used so you take a huge hit.

I hate to sound so grim but in reality, you won't get back what you invested or even close. I'd sit down and try and figure out what you want to do. I think it's kinda silly to sell knowing you will have a setup again and then paying full retail to buy equipment again and then down the road having to sell it all for a huge loss.
