Prices for True Percs?

Today, I got cheated out of a lot of money! I traded the 1 A. Ocellaris I got with my complete tank setup. The lfs gave me $20 for it when it was a 3" male. I was doing the trade in as my stocking plans had included a B&W Ocellaris pair, which the ones I was looking at were sold. The only pair in stock was an adult spawning pair which I didn't want because I want to see my clowns grow into the mature specimens. I ended up getting a pair of 1" True Percs, for $45 each before including the trade in. Funny thing was that when the owner was asking which pair(the A. Ocellaris was put in a tank with a 1" male True Perc) he said $45 each for the one I traded and the True Perc. Talk about making a sale! I went with a pair of two True Percs for $70 total, is it just me or is that expensive for two clowns? Would have been $90 with out my trade in... What have you guys paid for two True Percs?

Price should be the least of concerns when it comes to making decisions in the hobby. However it's a reality a lot of us face. I paid $50 for my pair. I've seen T. Percs even lower online but then you must factor in shipping. But quite honestly I haven't seen many Percs go for that price unless it's a mated pair, etc...

If you were willing to pay it, you can hardly say you were cheated. The only person you should be mad at is yourself.

Sometimes location is everything. They sell for $18 here.

Well it is not a mated pair. They are just two true percs that have it figured out. One female one male, about a year before I can get eggs according to the lfs. I am mad at myself but do think that they were a little high on price for true percs. Didn't think of it until after I purchased, but my other lfs had a member sale going on all clowns for $17 each if you buy two. Which funny thing is that I was at that one yesterday to get a replacement heater for the one that broke. I think that I am going to be switching lfs's lol.

You probably should have visited all the lfs before you purchase anything. I supply almost all the lfs in the Phoenix area & my Ocellaris sell between $12.00 & $19.00.

Yeah I defiantly will check prices between lfs's from now on. Funny that you supply to fish stores in the Phoenix area as I plan on moving there for college in a couple of years and maybe opening up my own store there after college. Who knows tho lol interests change over time, but this hobby is truely addicting!

:Phoenix has a lot of nice reef stores. We also have a meeting every month to trade corals. And best of all it's in a bar!

We have to meet up sometime when I move down there if you are still living there! Sounds awesome! I haven't looked into any fish clubs yet in my area, but probably should! I have a cousin down in phoenix for college right now, along with some other relatives. Too bad they aren't into reefing... :(

I'm not going anywhere. I've been here since 1984, own rental properties, & along with the fish business have a handyman business. And I like Phoenix but not that much this time of year.

25 bucks a pair at Inland Aquatics here in Terre Haute. But I inquired about a pair of all blacks they had and they were 400 bucks. Something certified, blah blah blah. :)

Yeah really! 400 bucks for any fish is ridiculous!!! I personally think that $150 is too high but if it is worth it then maybe... Reefstew, maybe I could work for you lol

Look me up when you come out here. My daughter works for me now but who knows? Their is plenty to do.

They must really like them & not want to sell them.

No, they were actually on sale when I went in for 25% off, or $300. They have other pairs for 200, 300, and 400 dollars too. The black ones I wanted were all the way in the back too, not even in a nice display.

I always heard Inland Aquatics was expensive on clowns. I liked this pair because they were just like a regular Onyx Ocellaris except they had NO orange, not even on the noses and they were all a really deep black. But they just want too much! I would have paid about 80 apiece for them...

Sounds like a B&W Ocellaris.

The lfs had a larger breeding pair of B&W Ocellaris for 125, but they had orange chins. The female was full of eggs cause her belly was plump, but as I said I like being able to watch my fish grow as much as I can.

SkullV, actually you're right they are B&Ws, both the ones at Inland and the ones with orange chins at the other store for 40 apiece. The store that has them at 40 apiece has them mislabeled as Onyx - from what I can find Onyx clowns have a black body but orange fins, tail and head. All the ones I mentioned here in town are all black, but the ones that are really expensive at Inland are ALL black, even the chins and there is no sign of orange tint of any sort like some of the orange chinned ones have. They are really super dark.
