prizm skimmer

so i posted this a few days ago but didnt get an answer.i got a 300g prizm skimmer for 82$.so you cant beet the deal.i dont have a skimmer at the time.(a seaclone but i dont call that a skimmer.)i thought i could do without but keeping the nitrates down is still a weekly water change of 20g even after 1 1/2 years.i have a 30g sump on my 75g mixed tank but didnt allow for a skimmer.i could build a shelf for it though.so here is the question.
in sump of hob.do you think one will work better than the other?

I'm not a big fan of the prizm skimmer. It will take a lot to get it tuned in. The prizm is a HOB. You will burn the motor out if you set the unit in the water. I guess you could hang it on the sump and work it like that. The reason I didn't like the prizm is will overflow easily and then you adjust it and It won't skim. The unit is not build very well IMO. Again this is just my option. Some can get them to work well. I was not one of those people.

i have a prizm i like it but i don't love it but it does work if kept at half throttle if i mess with it it does overflow other than that for 80 bucks it will do they are touchy as mentioned unless your generating alot of waste it will work for you

this is the prizm pro and has an external pump.it says it can be put in sump or hang on back or site beside your tank.as far as it overflowing i already have a drain made just waiting on it to get here.i have been looking at some mods.all look simple.like adding a adjustment to the air intake.i also have a air regulator i got from work for that.
but still.in sump or not?

i hang mine on the back. you dont have to worry about sump water level.

I had mine in the sump but it does need a constant water level also adjustments with the air intake makes a world of difference. But i now have a vertex and love it.

the small prisim skimmer can be sumurged in water the big prizm cannot be sumered in water the pump is no sealed like the small version

yes but the my instructions for the skimmer that come with the big prizm clearley states the big prizm pro' are not to be sumurged. they may have change the pump model after i bought mine 3 years ago. i did try mine hangin on the sump for awhile and it didnt waork that well at all. i use the extension tube that comes with it. also if you use the surface skimmer atachment it works pretty good but you have to check the water level in you tank every day to make sure it wont run you skimmer dry. i can tell you for sure that they do break the impellers more than other skimmers. if you power goes out or flickers the impeller does break some times. im on my 6th one in 3 years. there not made very stong. also i belive that the big prizm skimmer is now discontiued. and they dont support it any more. look on there sight. after useing a few red sea skimmers over the years would i reccomend or buy one angain. most certainly not.

alright point taken.i would have to call the company but i do recall being on there site and not seeing the pro version.all the parts are easily found tho and it not new so really dont care.well just have to see how it gos.thanks for all the comments.
