I have a yuma I just love but over the last few days it's mouth was deteriating. I tried blowing off the slime (which was not very much) and set it on a flat rock on the bottom under a ledge. I woke up this mornng and there is a nickel sized hole in it. The yuma is probably about half dollar size. The foot is pretty much gone. It's not mushy at all. Still very firm.

PH- 8.2
Salinity- 1.025
Temp- 82.4
Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 30-35
Calcium- 380
dKH- 13

Should I cut it? If so, in how many pieces?

I'm a little confused???

Ouch! Yeah, water change time...probably a few water changes over the next couple weeks.

edit to add that your alk looks high too. Need to do some water stabilization.

Are you using a reliable test kit? ie: Lamotte or Salifert??

Did something die, or are you overfeeding? Not sure that the high nitrates will affect the yuma, but in general, high nitrates are not desirable.

Got any gunk building up in your sump? Use a powerhead or turkey baster to blow stuff off your rock in your tank?

Try the following parameters: it works for keeping corals, will do same for mushrooms. Mine are plump and happy.
dkh 8.3-10, cal 420, mg 1200-1300, ammonia 0, nitrate 0, nitrite 0, and your other readings are ok. Use Salifert test, Kent additives.

Do not add a specimen unless your water tests to these specifications. It will save a lot of cost and grief.

It could just be a bacterial infection too...pretty common on Yuma.

Yeah, I just don't know. Oh well. Part of the game I guess. It just had to be my FAVORITE thing in my entire tank! Plus I never got a chance to take a pic of it for the contest. Oh well, wasn't meant to be.

told you they were a PITA agree with Chads statement. You have high phosphates and that is why they are melting. The nitrates mean nothing to them unless above 100 but phosphates seem to bug mine. I would try some phosguard or phosban. Get it out of flow, maybe very very very low flow and just let it go for a few weeks in total shade. I would not keep moving it as it is already stressed. jmho and good luck

edit-oh and healthy much less unhealthy yumas are hard to frag. most croak. again jmho and good luck

Thanks!

I have several yumas and they are all doing fine so that's why I was so confused. Although, luckily, it was my favorite thing in my entire tank. Figures, ehh...Part of the game I guess.
