problem upgrading a driver slave solid red

I just had a friend come over my 3rd time upgrading somebody everything went though the master gave the green yellow code all seemed good when we were done his unit would only give us a solid red sometimes a pink we tried flashing it a couple times with the exact same thing happening. he will be sending it into you on monday but I would like to know if there is anything I could have done.

In my experience that is due to the receiving driver being too far away from the sending driver. The one time it happened to me, reflashing with the driver super close to the sender fixed it and all was good.

Doubt that was it the most it was 3-4' and the last time I flashed it was no more the 1' away both times it gave proper commutation codes a signals and the master was flashing green and yellow. after I restarted his driver his unit would only stay red and no combination of pressing mode and set would fix it.

Probably a stupid question, but did you try unplugging it and plugging it in again to reset it?

yup a few times even waited a couple minutes bums me out because I was trying to do him the favor of not having to send it in. this was the 5th unit I flashed 1st time getting this

Wierd thing is, I just went through all the literature and there isn't even a solid red code for anything.

That's my driver that we were upgrading.

Brought it home and plugged it in and I get red/yellow over-temp.

Dunno?

I'm gonna send it in Monday.

Thanks for trying to help out labman. It was appreciated.

Yep did the same thing

When I spoke to one of Ecotech support members before this on the phone about upgrading he said to relax have a beer while the two drivers were talking. I am afraid I was out of beer when doing this upgrade. A sin for a Scotsmen, Irish and Germen. :p

Actually, I found a red signal on the firmware upgrade literature.

There's 2 reasons for it. When you start the upgrade process you'll get it on both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 drivers when you power them on holding the required buttons.

After the upgrade, you'll get the red LED again when it cycles on. When you power the driver on after the upgrade or on any gen 2, you will get the red as the first color and indicates, Bootloader indicator, whatever that is, but it should continue flashing through the revision blinks. Green for major revisions, 2 max and blue for the number of minor revisions. It should blink white afterwards for startup complete.

Look at page 6 of the manual.

No problem. It's supposed to start off red on reboot, but it shouldn't get stuck there. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Hopefully Dave or Tim will chime in.

I had the same problem the first time I flashed one of mine. It just stayed solid red after the reboot. They were about 3' apart. The 2nd time I flashed them I just put them side by side (a couple of inches a part) then it worked fine.

I got your controller in today and it was definitely bad. Nothing I did would cure the solid red light. I am sure it was not the process of upgrading it that caused it to fail. I think it was just a failure and happened at the time of upgrading it. Just one of this rare unfortunate events. Will ship back to you today via UPS.

I was going to upgrade a couple controllers at The SCMAS meeting tonight and had a similar problem. I had my controler updated by Tom @ So Cal Tropical Fish and I upgraded my second pump fine. When I went to upgrade a members new Gen1, I followed instructions and released the set button on the upgrade slave, lights flashed on both but quickly stopped. Master flashed green/yellow and slave stays red. Tried several times, no change, drivers were next to each other. I decided not to try any more upgrades, I let him know it will need to be sent in -I killed it!

Have you guys found a solution for this? or do we just need to send the pump in?

Thanks

Hi Tim, received the driver today. Completed the upgrade on my 2nd unit in about 10 minutes. Thanks for the help.

Top notch service here. Thats why I'm a repeat customer and will continue to buy these products.

Looks like it was nothing we did wrong Labman. Thanks for the help.

Jim

To correct this you must re-program the board by unplugging the unit, holding down mode and set, plug the unit back in, and continue to hold mode and set for 10 seconds or until the unit toggles between red and white.

A red LED means that the upgrade process has initiated but not finished. Trying a few times is the best way to correct this.

We have done hundreds of upgrades and have not experienced this error unless drivers were not close enough or in some cases the upgrade doesn't work perfectly the first time. By trying again we have always corrected this problem except in the one case mentioned above.
