Problem with 9010

Hi Roger,

Several months ago you helped me with a 9010 skimmer that was not working properly. With your help, it has performed very nicely. Until now!

Last week, I returned home from a 23 day absence. My tank was watched by a friend, who did nothing to the skimmer while I was away. Obviously, it needed cleaning. After doing so, I cannot get a continuous flow of air. I have checked for kinks and blockages in the air line and found none. The pump delivers a good flow. The interior column of the collector fills with water to overflow. I have taken the skimmer apart and all seems fine. But no air.

Might you be able to help me again.

Thanks, Fred

You might have salt built up in the air inlet. Try taking the blue air screw out and run some warm water through there.

Doe may be correct, the other possibilty is the venturi is plugged. You can run the entire skimmer submerged in a mix of 75% warm water 25% vinegar and this will clean all the inner chambers of any salt build up. Remove the screw and make sure the skimmer is completely submerged, an old salt bucket works well for this.

Thanks to both.

I my own problem solving efforts, I have blown through the air passage. There seems to be no restriction. But I will try the vinegar cleaning to see if it helps.

I'll keep you informed.

Thanks again, Fred

Hi Roger,

I tried the vinegar treatment. It didn't seem to help.

I get a nice flow of bubbles until the canister is put back on the skimmer. It seems the air flow is somehow repressed.

I have to think that this something simple and I am just missing it. Any more ideas?

Thanks, Fred

Is the skimmer submerged deeper than usual? It sounds like when you put the cup on the air intake chokes on water. This would indicate it is submerged too deep or not enough water is exiting (pipe inserted too far or back hole plugged).

Thanks Roger.

The water level is where it always was---even with the little wavy line indicating water level.

I will try adjusting the height and see if makes a difference.

Hi Roger,

That's the ticket!!!

I raised the unit about two inches and it is working like a champ. Thanks for your advise and your continued support.
