I just put a healthy 1" blue tang in my tank last thursday, I bought from clayton for 30 bux. the fish was never scared and ate the first time I tried feeding him. He hung with my clowns all day b/c I guess he thought thats what he was, hah. anyway I just got home from hockey practice, yeah its like 2:30AM, I was making sure everything was going good in the tank before bed. I happened to look at the powerhead and I saw half of the fish stickin out of where the powerhead takes the water in. has anyone else had, and/or know how to fix this problem?? I am worried its gonna take out my other 3 fish now.. I think the fish was sleeping or whatever and floated into it... So my last question would they(CPE) possibly help me out on getting another fish or is there no guarentees? My water quality is better than ever and I would wait awhile before trying another fish, but if they have some kind of 14 day guarentee then I want to take advantage and maybe pay a little more for a bigger blue tang that won't get sliced...

I was thinking maybe putting some sort of screen around the intake of the powerhead, but I dont know.. I am done rambling on, I am going to bed...

I picked up a potters angel around the time I put the mod in, and he got two close to the maxi-mod and was sucked in. I saw it happen. I don't know if he was going for a piece of food or what. He was not sick and was eating well. My cleaner wrasse is the smallest fish I have and he sleeps in a whole near where the modded mj is, and has never had an issue.

Young Vishboy has a maxi mod and 3 small fish in a 30 gallon, and no worries. He does turn it off at night, though.

i glued a kind of plastic screen to the intake on mine.

and i think you might be out of luck on the guarentee if the fish gets chewed up by something mechanical.

It's ok cz, we are going to hit up clayton tonight to drop some more cash. Just throw money at your problems and they will always go away.

You did the sushi mod.
Make sure you have the stopper on that prevents it from turning the wrong way. See the DIY forum and maxijet mod thread for more information.

Sushi mod?

I can see it now ....... Ron Popeil will be selling them on TV.

What will his catch phrase be? "Set it and forget it" has already been used.

Maybe "Drop it and chop it"?

so what happen was he does not have the stopper on there to make the flow always blow outward and it sucked a fish in?

yea I will get you one... I was looking at it today and where the propeller is there is only 1 slot where the fish would have to be to get chopped... it was definetly a unlucky deal for th fish.. the intake slots are very skinny and most fish would be able to fit through them its just that I had the smallest blue tang you can buy and he happened to be extremely skinny.. the opening on the slots are as wide as this dash (--) Thats the only measurment I can give you, hah.. I have had my clownfish and they swim all around it and never have a problem knock on wood.

as for the propeller to spin backwards, 1 of mine does it every once in awhile right when I turn it on, but its insanely loud and obvious. all I do is unplug it and plug it back in... I probably should fix it though.

If there is no stopper- every time the prop starts up there is a 50/50 chance it will start in the correct direction. If the stopper is present, then it if turning the wrong way, the prop hits the stopper and spins the other direction.

My fish swim around the mod without any problems. In between cleanings they would nip at the sides of the shroud with no problems at all (and this thing was putting out some pretty mean flow).

Not using a stopper is inviting fish death.

My maximod now runs at night. Finally figured out why it takes so long to fall asleep. Too quiet.

That must have been one small tang. My fish are too wide to fit through the inlet slots, so I dont worry.
